Worship, Caliphate; two Important Duties of Muslims

Mawlana Abdol-Ghani Badri mentioned ‘worship’ and ‘caliphate’ as two main responsibilities of every Muslim, expressing the issue in the light of the Noble Qur’an in the Friday sermon of Zahedan, Iran, on Oct. 30, 2015.
“SunniOnline” reported, the interim Friday imam of Sunnis in Zahedan began his sermon by the Qur’anic verse: «الَّذِينَ إِن مَّكَّنَّاهُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ أَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتَوُا الزَّكَاةَ وَأَمَرُوا بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَنَهَوْا عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ وَلِلَّهِ عَاقِبَةُ الْأُمُورِ» and said, “There are many amazing things in the world we live in, but mankind is the most outlandish creature in this universe.”
He added more, “Human beings, like many other creatures, have opposite personalities. By villainy and mischief, they would be called ‘Satans’. On the other hand, if this mankind purifies and gets perfection, it will be the best among the other creatures and even higher than angels in some cases.”
The Hadith teacher at Darululoom Zahedan alluded to the first purpose of mankind’s creation and said, “Some people consider eating, drinking and guarding family the aim of life, and some others think discovery is their purpose. But the Noble Qur’an says human beings and jinn have been created to worship Allah.”
Quoting the Noble verses of the Qur’an, he said, “Allah the Almighty says: «وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ», (And I created not the Jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me.); «وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَكَ الْيَقِينُ», (And worship your Lord until the certainty (i.e. death) comes to you.) Worshipping the Almighty is one of the duties of mankind. Human beings are needy creatures who need the Almighty for their existence and life. So people should show insufficiency and weakness before the Almighty. Ulama have defined the worship as the extreme cringing.”
Mentioning ‘prayers’ as the most important worship and said, “In prayers (Salah), the person is in the extreme condition of supplication and cringing; standing, bowing and kneeling are the acts which show the cringing of mankind. Then the person raises hands supplicating before Allah.”
Shaikh Badri counted worship the half of faith and said, “Caliphate is the second purpose of life. It means the acts which are supposed to be done for human beings, they carry out them. The Sublime has addressed the prophet Dawoud: «يَا دَاوُودُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاكَ خَلِيفَةً فِي الْأَرْضِ فَاحْكُم بَيْنَ النَّاسِ بِالْحَقِّ », (O Dawoud! Verily, We have placed you as a successor on the earth; so judge you between men in truth). [38: 26]
“Allah trains human beings and wants them to be His caliph on the earth. Allah provides the sustenance and livelihood of the family and children by an earning guardian. The Almighty is ‘Haadi’ and guides the people; human beings also should be guiders, enjoining towards the good and forbidding from the bad. Allah hates injustice and cruelty, but the people are supposed to implement justice on the earth as much as they can and they are responsible,” the teacher of Tafseer added more.
Terming ‘worship’ and ‘caliphate’ the summary of the acts of all prophets, he said, “The prophets, who are examples for human beings, had assumed the duty of worship and divine caliphate; the prophet, peace be upon him, used to worship a lot at nights and look after public affairs in days. He was writing letters to kings to save nations from the worship of idols bringing them to the worship of the only Lord.”

Muslims have weakness in their duties
Reminding the golden past of Muslims, Mawlana Abdol-Ghani Badri said, “One of the reasons behind the success and glory of the early Muslims is their responsible behavior; they were really worshiping Him and carrying out the duties of caliphate on the earth. But today’s Muslims have weaknesses either in the both cases or in one of them. Thus we face problems as a nation.”
“Ulama say the faith completes by two points; ‘submission for the orders of Allah and pity on the creatures of Him. In other words, ‘worship’ and ‘caliphate’ complete the faith of any person. Nowadays, some Muslims only focus on worships while some others are limited to their activities in organizations, parties and communities”, the vice-imam of Sunnis further said.
At the end of his speech, Shaikh Badri alluded to the ongoing problems and crises of the Muslim world and addressed the audience, “Don’t be heedless over what is going on in the Muslim world. We should be dutiful towards the situation of the Muslim land. If we cannot do anything, at least we must raise hands for prayer and ask Allah to protect Muslims from crises. Sometimes Allah makes a sigh fruitful and save all.”
