Tehran: Prominent Turkmen Cleric Passes away

Taha Jan Akhund Froozesh, an outstanding Iranian Sunni Turkmen scholar from Golestan province, north of Iran, passed away in a hospital of Tehran on Wednesday morning, August 10, 2022. He was 55.

“SunniOnline” received information; he was suffering from cancer and was admitted to hospital for treatment.

Taha Jan Froozesh was the president of Sadia Islamic Seminary in Kalaleh and was a famous scholar in the region of Turkmen Sahra.

Taha Jan Akhund was the son of Akhund Abdol-Wahab Froozesh. He was born in 1968 in the city of Gonbad Kavus.

In 1978, Taha Jan started his elementary education at the Mohammadiyeh seminary in Gonbad Kavous, and graduated from this Islamic school in 1992.

After his father’s death, Akhund Jan took over all his father’s responsibilities and was appointed as the president of the seminary.

In 2006, Akhund Taha Jan built a Grand Musalla/Eidgah and a Grand mosque and started Eid prayers since 2007 in his hometown. Founding a seminary for female students besides the seminary for males was among the most important services of Shaikh Taha Jan Akhund.

Following the passing of this prominent scholar, the most influential Iranian Sunni leader issued a statement expressing his condolences to the family of the deceased, to his students, fans and people of the entire reign of Turkmen Sahara.

“The news of the death of a courageous, compassionate, and the great scholar, Taha Jan Akhund Froozesh, may Allah have mercy on him, caused us grief and sorrow. He was a well-known, active, and honest scholar of Golestan province and son of Shaikh Abdol-Wahab Akhund Froozesh,” said the Friday prayer leader of Zahedan in a statement.

“Taha Akhund carried out significant services in the field of research, in Islamic sciences, in guiding people and resolving family disputes. He has trained many scholars and students,” Shaikh Abdol-Hamid added.

President of Darululoom Zahedan concluded his statement: “I offer my deepest condolences on the death of this precious scholar, to the scholars, to the people of Turkmen Sahra and the family of the deceased and his students and friends.”
