The most influential Iranian Sunni leader has urged on resolving the problems of Kurdistan’s people by negotiation and peaceful legal channels. He warned about any kind of sanctions and sieging the Kurdistan region.
The official website of Shaikh-ul-Islam Mawlana Abdol-Hamid published his statement in which he termed any kind of military assault, imposing sanction and pressure on the Kurdistan region “provoking, hostile and against the national interests of Iraq and Muslim world”.
“The oppressed people pf Iraq, especially Kurd brothers and sisters have endured lots of pains and hardships; the massacre of Kurds by chemical weapons, suppression of political opponents and repeated destruction of Kurdish cities and villages during the rule of Ba’th party are some difficulties which Kurds suffered in Iraq,” he said.
Mawlana Abdol-Hamid alluded to the necessity of resolving the problems by peaceful channels and said: “The central government of Iraq should not repeat the blunders of its predecessors and talk with people by the language of force. This attitude creates enmity and extends distances among the nation and its result would be dangerous for Iraq and other regions.”
“[Sieging Kurdistan] intensifies and provokes ethnic and religious intolerance and creates new problems which are not predictable. Inflammation in the region and Muslim world is another fruit of besieging Kurdistan,” the president and rector of Darululoom Zahedan underlined.
He has said in his statement: “Restraint and taking care of Iraqis’ interests are the best resolution to get rid of the current crisis. Struggling to marginalize the Kurdistan region and launching military act against it are provoking and hostile acts and it harms all people of Iraq. So the two sides should return to the table of negotiation and never close the doors of dialogue; it is in favor of all.”
Shaikh Abdol-Hamid concluded his statement by saying: “Neither the Iraqi nation nor the people of the region can tolerate a new war and conflict. Economic encirclement and political sanctions against the Kurdistan region harm the region. It gives the bad-wishers of Muslim countries a chance to misuse the differences and get closer to their sinister aims. It is suitable for the countries in the region and Iraqi parties and groups to strive for resolving the problems of the Kurdistan region by restraint.
