Ml. Ab. Hamid Criticizes Iranian Gov. & Parl. For Ignoring Sunnis

SunniOnline: absence of the most influential Iranian Sunni leader, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid Isma’eelzahi in the second inauguration ceremony of the president Hassan Rouhani has had a worldwide coverage with reactions from different circles. Both Shia and Sunni personalities and many members of the Iranian parliament also criticized the government and the executive board of the parliament for their ‘remissness’ in this regard.
While the leaders of religious minorities and official delegations from faceless and unheard countries like “Cape Verde” and “Suriname” were invited to attend the inauguration ceremony of Dr. Rouhani, but there was not any seat for national and public figures of the Sunni community such as Mawlana Abdol-Hamid.
Talking to “SunniOnline” exclusively, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid expressed his views on the importance of the presence of Sunni figures in such ceremonies.
He said: “We had a revolution for ‘Islam’ and unity of Muslim Ummah we have been chanting slogans for 38 years about unity. Despite specifying a week for unity and publishing numerous articles and books on this subject, it is a fact that unity cannot be obtained only by word and slogan.”
The famous Sunni scholar said more: “In many countries, there is no any day or week of unity, but actually they have fraternity and unity. Even a country like Afghanistan which is lower than us in culture and education due to war and internal problems has a better position. There are many higher authorities from Shia communities like first-vice of the president, ministers and governors, while these countries have a majority of Sunni population. They know well that they can preserve their sovereignty and governments by unity and focusing on the rights of minorities. But in Iran still we just hear slogans. There has not been any serious act to share the power with Sunnis and engage them in higher posts. Even their public figures are ignored from official ceremonies.”

Majlis & Gov. should not surrender before pressure groups
Responding to another question about the responsible(s) of ignoring Sunni leaders, the rector and principal of Darululoom Zahedan cleared: “The main decision makers who invited domestic and foreign figures and authorities are the government and the executive board of the parliament. Both of these offices showed negligence about invitation of Sunnis to national meetings. They should not surrender easily before the pressure of particular groups and elements who only think of their interests and they have no sympathy for the country.”
“No excuse can be accepted from the government as well as from the Majlis (parliament) in this regard. The people complain strongly over this attitude,” Mawlana Abdol-Hamid underlined.

Presence of women in cabinet, sign of advancement
Expressing his views on the absence of Sunnis and women in the new cabinet of Dr. Rouhani, Mawlana Abdol-Hamid said: “Women constitute half of the society. They had an active role in election and different areas. Many of women hold big certificates with academic knowledge and capabilities. Their presence is cabinet is the sign of advancement.”
“In the current situation, appointing women as minister could change the view of the world about us while according to Islamic Shari’ah there is no problem with the participation of women in higher posts. As well as lots of women have been appointed in many higher posts,” he added more.
Pointing out to the condition of the Sunnis in Iran, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid said: “Every president in Iran owes the Iranian Sunni community who take part in polling unanimously, but they have no considerable share in the power and there is no any seat for them in the board of government and higher management.”
“Absence of Sunnis in the cabinet and also in the swearing-in ceremony was disappointing. We hope the president will rebuff the anxieties of people in the remaining days by resisting in front of pressure groups. Mr. Rouhani has been elected by people and he should fulfil his promises he had given to people. Out of 18 ministers, appointing one minister from the Sunni community or women can nullify propaganda of the enemies making us more united inside the country,” the prominent Iranian Sunni leader concluded his points.
