Iran: 19th Meeting of Islamic Fiqh Academy Held in Zahedan

IRAN – ZAHEDAN: The 19th meeting of ‘Islamic Fiqh Academy’ of the Iranian Sunni community concluded its work in Darululoom Zahedan on Saturday, 29 Dec. 2013.

Dozens of Islamic scholars from different parts of Iran, including Sistan-Baluchistan, Khorasan-e-Jonoubi, Khorasan-e-Razawi, Golestan, Fars and Hormozgan provinces, took part in the two-day long meeting to discuss some juridical issues of the society.

Shaikh-ul-Islam Mawlana Abdol-Hamid, rector of Darululoom Zahedan, chaired the meeting. In his inaugural speech, he shed light on the importance of Islamic scholars’ research to find answers for the questions of Muslims in the modern time.

Alluding to the necessity of economy and industry, he called on the scholars and experts to introduce legal methods to the people in order to facilitate safe economic activities for them. He urged on the members to find solutions in accordance with the principles of Shari’ah.

The reports of our correspondent suggest the members of the Islamic Fiqh Academy analyzed the views of different juridical schools of thought about “multiplicity of the atonement for accidental murder”, “lease and monetary mortgage” and “moon sighting” (royat-e-hilal).

After listening to articles of the members on the issues, the Islamic Fiqh Academy accepted the proposal of Mufti Muhammad Qasem Qasemi to establish a committee for moon sighting. This committee will have branches in different Sunni-dominated areas inside Iran.

The Islamic Fiqh Academy of Iran was founded in 1998 under the supervision of Darululoom Zahedan, the largest Sunni seminary in Iran, to find solutions for the juridical issues of Sunnis in Iran.
