Meeting of Sunni students with their scholars, intellectuals

The national meeting of Sunni students of different universities was held in Darululoom Zahedan on Thursday, March 7, 2013 under the motto “The era of Islamic awakening, human generosity, freedom and social justice”.

Preliminary session of the meeting was held in the Grand Makki Masjid in Wednesday evening. The meeting was kicked off by recitation of a student of Zabol University.

The first article by “Younus Narui” was presented; its title was ‘Muhammad PBUH; Savior of Humanity’. In a part of his essay, the student urged more than a billion Muslims bear witness that Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace & blessings be upon him, is the messenger of Allah Almighty; beside hundreds of non-Muslim intellectuals confess he was a great leader. So the entire world must know him well. He is the real savior of humankind. His religion believes in compromise and peace.

Discourse of Molawi Behzad Feqhi
The next speaker was a young scholar from the Khorasan province. He said by struggle and strength Muslims can retain their great past status in the world. Anti-Muslim civilizations and cultures have been striving to depress and discourage Muslim masses; they want Muslims –who were giving the world the lesson of freedom– to neglect their brilliant past.

Now the question is that, can Muslims get their lost honor and dignity? Can they improve in different fields as the West could? The answer is that yes, Muslims can progress. The only remedy is to make serious efforts continuously. The One who saved the Argo of Nuh, peace be upon him, can help us if we are good residents of the Argo. We must not be afraid of the enemies’ complots; the noble Qur’an compared their conspiracies to spider webs, he added more.

The young scholar mentioned the story of ‘Kahf’ (the Companions of the Cave) in a part of his discourse saying the People of the Cave remained eternal in history due to their strong faith and resistance against oppressive rulers of their time. When they decided to live for the sake of Allah the Almighty, He changed the system of His universe in favor of them, a dog became their follower and people’s hearts and eyes imitated them. Allah says: “They were young men who believed in their Lord and We gave them more guidance… If you had a look at them, you would have fled away from them and would have been filled with awe of them.” [Kahf: 13 & 18]

Shaikh Behzad Feqhi concluded his points by quoting some words of Allama Iqbal Lahori and said the code of Muslims’ prosperity was leaving laziness and seeking comfort; Allama Iqbal had witnessed all premier universities of the world, he says if any society is involved in laziness and self-indulgence, people will not see any intellectual and great thinker in that community.

First session of the National Convention of Sunni Students
On Thursday morning, the first part of the national gathering of Sunni students was initiated inside the Grand Makki Masjid of Zahedan, next to Darululoom Zahedan.

This session was begun by reciting of Qari Abu-Mustafa Salarzahi, a Tajweed teacher at Darululoom Zahedan and an essay presented by ‘Abdul-Waheed Barani’, student of the Chabahar International University.

The Sunni student’s article was announced by the title of ‘Cultural Awakening Paves the Way for Islamic Vigilance and Justice’. He said Islam was the religion of the safe nature that has given special priority to justice in all angles of life.

‘Zabihullah Brahui’, a student of Darululoom Zahedan, presented his essay on ‘Religious Motivations behind Recent Awakening Movements.’ He underlined Muslim masses took to streets for justice and freedom because they had been bestowed ‘clean nature’. Apart from that, Muslims of the Middle East want Islam, they can not bear blasphemous acts of the West, occupation of Palestine and their first Qibla is unacceptable, they want to get rid of discrimination and oppression. That is why they revolted.

The student of the final year of Darululoom Zahedan quoted late Allama Abul Hassan Nadvi as saying Islamic motives would be dynamic by ‘exposing an ideal and exemplary life’, ‘full attention on the edification and upbringing the new generation’, ‘productive and unique leadership’, ‘countering social and moral corruption’ and ‘utilizing civil and national rights to protect Islamic identity bravely and subtly.

For giving freshness to the audience, a nasheed group from Darululoom Zahedan presented a nice Islamic song. Then Mahmoud Barahuinejad, a student of Zahedan’s university read his article. It was about ‘Role and Status of Darululoom Zahedan; Academicians’ View about this Religious and Educational Center’.

Mr. Barahuinejad alluded to brilliant past of Iran and counted the foundation of Darululoom Zahedan a great change in the history of the country that has been seen dramatic developments under the rectorate of Shaikh-ul-Islam Abdol-Hameed.

He mentioned sympathy of the rector of Darululoom Zahedan for all and criticized rumor spreading campaigns of some fanatic websites and elements to defame the rector of Darululoom Zahedan. He asked ‘sane and wise men of the regime and Shia intellectuals and critics’ to put frenum on fanatic sides who have been striving to destabilize national and Islamic unity and solidarity in the country.

The student of Zahedan’s university had a look into the role of Darululoom Zahedan over encouraging Sunni young generation to get modern education. He stated organizing this convention and direct and indirect support of students indicate how much Darululoom is interested to boost knowledge and equip the new generation with the weapon of education.

He asked the participator students to not be disappointed over discriminative stances and behavior of the current system. He said we must get ready for a better future. Education decreases useless bigotry in society and pave the way for positive changes; people must know their civil rights. We should struggle to be on the top in science; one day the world would be students of us.

After discourse of an Islamic scholar form Kurdistan, Mamusta Sharifi, one of the Kurd students presented a nice poem in his native language. The final phase of this session was speech of the grand Mufti of Darululoom Zahedan.

Discourse of Mufti Muhammad Qasem Qasemi

The Hadith lecturer of Darululoom Zahedan welcomed participators in his speech and stated holding such gatherings is only for commiseration and sympathy.

He emphasized Islam could deal with all crises and conspiracies because of ‘Islam’ itself and presence of sincere and piteous men in Ummah. Allah Almighty has protected Islam by pious men who sacrificed their lives for this aim; in the first years of Islam, the Companions like Abu-Bakr As-Seddiq, Omar al-Farouq, Othman and Moaz bin Jabal, may Allah be pleased with them, supported the chosen religion of Allah. In the next years, devotee men like ‘Muhammad bin Qasem’, ‘Sultan Muhammad Fatih’ and others protected Islam from the plots of enemies. They were real lovers of Islam.

Addressing students, Shaikh Qasemi said, “Dear students must know, the thing that increases their position and value is conveying the message of Allah to the world. It makes the life a young Muslim meaningful. A goaloriented person always works hard to awake others who are neglectful and heedless. A man with such aims can be like the People of the Cave; an aimless student would be like a dry leaf as he abandoned the Ummah.

The chief-editor of Neday Islam international magazine considered ‘vigilance of youth’ the reason of Islamic awakening in the Middle East and said in fact awakening movements in the region succeeded by the vigilance of youth. These movements can retain their positions by those youth who have selected the Qur’an their leader. They sacrificed their lives and amusements of life on the path of Allah.

Explaining the Qur’anic verse: «و جاهدوا فی الله حق جهاده», Mufti Qasemi said Jihad means to fight with the velleities of the self, to offer prayers in midnights and to establish prayers in cold and hot weather. Men of this sort of Jihad, Imam Ghazali, Saadi, Ibn Khaldun, Iqbal Lahori and others spent their lives on this Jihad.

At the end of his speech, he called on students to strengthen their relations with the noble Qur’an, life of Holy Prophet, peace & blessings be upon him, and reading biography of Muslim saints and leaders.

Sidelong programs
After Dhuhr prayers and lunch, students took part in question & answer classes held by teachers of Darululoom Zahedan on juridical, doctrinal and historical issues inside the seminary. Some students of other regions met with Shaikh-ul-Islam and exchanged ideas.

There were some stations to upload Islamic and reformative files for mobile phones, book fair with special discount and exhibition of journals for students inside Darululoom Zahedan’s campus.

Final session

The final session of the National Convention of Sunni Students began its activities after Maghrib prayers of Thursday, March 7, 2013.  In this part, Shaikh-ul-Islam Abdol-Hameed, the rector of Darululoom Zahedan and the leading Islamic scholar of Iran, talked to thousands of students gathered in the Grand Makki Masjid

Modern & Islamic sciences; complementary of each other
Shaikh Isma’eelzahi welcomed the students and expressed his pleasure over presence of them in Zahedan to meet scholars and intellectuals. He made du’a for some students who faced obstacles while traveling to Zahedan to participate in the meeting.

He underlined mankind has gained dramatic advancement in science and technology; but in spiritual field people suffer from lack of good morals and reformation. People have been facing downfall in spiritual life; these shortages can be compensated only by spiritual feeding.

The member of the International Union for Muslim Scholars further said human beings can be prosperous by the two wings of material and spiritual aspects of life. Mankind have these two angles; they need to progress in both of them. Unfortunately, today’s’ human beings only focus on the material part neglecting the other one. The actual welfare in the both worlds can be obtained by enhancement of the spiritual aspect of the human life.

Spiritual and material blessings are complementary for each others; following one of them and kicking out the other means that person has not been blessed fully. Thus, we need to get both Islamic and modern sciences. Our societies can be ideal by both of the sciences and educational systems. They complete each other; we must hold both of them.

At the end of the first part of his discourse, Shaikh-ul-Islam called teachings of Holy Prophet ‘unique and unbeatable’ inviting rulers to imitate the way of the last messenger of Allah and the Guided Caliphs. He said the only remedy is imitation of the Qur’an and Sunnah.

‘Fortunate rulers respect rights of citizens
In the second part of his speech, the leading Sunni scholar, urged Muslims have experienced a history with ups-and-downs; now they have been sure that there is no any option but to return to the Islamic civilization and principles.

Shaikh Abdol-Hameed added more, “Muslims have learnt absurd promises and claims of the West and East blocs can not make them prosperous; rather they have been creating lots of calamities for Muslim Ummah. Muslims are in the process of leaving a tough past unto a new era; thus they seem to be adrift.”

The powers who claim to be pioneers of democracy and human rights witness carelessly the genocide of tens of thousands Muslims in different countries. They are not truthful supporters of human rights and democracy; they have kept silent over some horrible crimes which have been taking place in some regions. They allow some rulers to target by missiles and heavy bombs the people who want only Islam, freedom and human dignity. Why those people should be killed? Such divine moves to human respects, values and freedom can not be stopped. People’s rise in the Middle East was for justice and liberty. Successful and fortunate rulers respect civil rights of people; all citizens are equal in their terms, the Sunni leader underlined.

Sunni students must not be disappointed
Addressing students of universities, Mawlana Abdol-Hameed pointed that Sunni students should not be disappointed over some behaviors and unpleasant experiences; they must continue their studies with full zeal.

Shaikh-ul-Islam emphasized ‘obeying law’ is our way and we believe in dialogue. We are against violence and killing people. We have taken strong stances about extremists. We welcome those who are ready to discuss matters and believe that dialogue is the best choice.

The outstanding Sunni scholar stated, “We do not demand any nonsense thing; we never asked for any thing illegally for our people. We just want the due respect and freedom of Sunni Muslims in Iran. Since the initial days of the Revolution the regime had many opportunities to ensure justice and honor for Sunnis; yet some officials say they need more time even after wasting 34 years! How much time they need? Is a quarter of a century not enough for responding to demands of any community? We are not greedy for any official post and power; we only want our due rights and share when you distribute jobs and employ people. We do not want our people to feel strange in our country.”

Khateeb of Ahl-us-Sunnah added more we are not planning to topple the regime. We do not support anyone who works hard to destabilize the country. We think ‘Islamic Republic’ is an opportunity if different ethnic groups and sects get their due rights under its rule. Both Islam as well as our national constitution urge on freedom of speech, political liberties and social rights. Currently we do not want any thing more than what the constitution affirms.

Sunni Muslims of Iran want full implementation of the constitution. We are not refugees and settlers; Sunnis are the owners and heritors of this country. When there was not any of ‘Reza Shah’ and his son –the last king of Iran– our forefathers used to protect country’s borders. We lived in this land before all kings and regimes of Iran; this country belongs to us, so we should have authority to take part in the fate of our motherland, the member of the IUMS underlined.

Shaikh-ul-Islam pointed if any regime runs the country partially ignoring other citizens, it will not see the face of success. A Muslim ruler is surrogate of divine sovereignty; as Allah Almighty ensures needs of all mankind managing their issues, a ruler must carry out his duties impartially. A ruler must take care of every citizen and ensure the rights of all. Any particular group can not administrate the country alone. All wings and parties should run their country with open minds and hearts together. As we are in minority, we understand well what others bear. Thus I suggested rulers and influential men of other states in my abroad trips to take care of all people.

Fanatic elements can not avert us
The chairman of the Coordination Council of the Sunni Seminaries in Sistan-Baluchistan alluded to attempts of some fanatic elements in rumor mongering who have been striving to force Sunni citizens to go to extremes. He said that Sunnis will not leave the sober way. Rights must be given; they can not be hidden by commotion of some abnormal websites. We want to serve our country; discrimination is not the due response for our specialized and educated people.

Shaikh Abdol-Hameed expressed his deep sorrow over obstacles on the way of some students toward Zahedan to meet their intellectuals. He said doors of universities are not open for us, otherwise we would not ask students to gather in Zahedan’s Darululoom. We just encourage students here to get education and become good Muslims. Unfortunately, many students were stopped to reach Zahedan.

The final session of the National Convention of Sunni Students in Zahedan concluded by the sincere du’a of Shaikh-ul-Islam and Isha prayers.
