Tajiks going to Hajj on foot

A group of Muslims from the Republic of Tajikistan started a long journey on foot to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj.
According to news reports, the group which is made up of individuals as young as 21 and as old as 65 began their journey from the city of Hamedan, Khatlan province.
Head of the pilgrimage group is Abdul Aziz Rajabov, a famous Tajik sportsman who once made the walking trip six years ago.
Tajikistan is the only former Soviet state with Islam as its official religion. During the course of seven decades of political control, Soviet policy makers were unable to eradicate the Islamic tradition in this Central Asian country.
