‘We Want our Legal Rights not Power’
eid-prayerDelivering Eid sermon to more than 200,000 worshipers in the central Musalla (place for Eid prayers) of Zahedan in Eid-ul-Adha day, khateeb of Sunnis in Zahedan stated that the only demands of the Sunni community of Iran is to have “maintenance of religious freedom of the Sunni community in Iran” and “implement of equality between Shiite and Sunni citizens”.

Shaikh Abdul Hameed urged that Islam is the religion of moderation; excessiveness and wastage are forbidden in Islam. Many people violated moderation in the history; nowadays after the invention of new means of mass communication the situation has become worse than ever. Many Muslims try to defame each others not to combat their non-believer enemies.
Talking to the largest gathering of Sunni Muslims in Iran, the head of Darululoom Zahedan pointed out, “Some internal and local newspapers and websites have been running a planned campaign to deface me as they have told many lies recently. If any individual criticized me positively I would have appreciated him happily, but the pro-government media sources only report lies and rumors nothing else.”
The prominent Sunni scholar stressed that he is not afraid of such false accusations but it would badly affect our unity and distress the process of peace in the country.
“keeping in mind that telling lies is haram (illegal) in Islam, such baseless blames may provoke some Sunnis, in addition to it they claim that they are ‘doctrinaire’, though inventing lies is against the principle,” respected Shaikh urged.
Mawlana Abdul Hameed continued saying that “maintenance of religious freedom of the Sunnis in Iran” and “implement of equality between the Iranian Shiite and Sunnis” are the only and main demands of the Sunni community. Sunnis are legalism citizens, they do not want shares and quotas but they ask justice and their legal rights.
“We are not struggling to gain power, Sunnis know that they are in minority in Iran and can not get the power; thus we have not tried to nominate any Sunni candidate for presidential elections. But the rulers must enforce equality between Shiite and Sunni citizens. We want our constitutional rights, the rulers must halt the extremist elements those are part of the government and always make illegal limitations for the Sunni community’, Shaikh Abdul Hameed concluded his points.
