Shaikh Abdol-Hamid’s reaction on economic pressures in Iran:

Devastating Inflation Increases Public Concern

Devastating Inflation Increases Public Concern

Referring to reports of skyrocket in bread prices in Iran, the most influential Iranian Sunni leader strongly criticized such official decisions. He urged in a part of his Friday speech of May 6, 2022 that the economic crisis in Iran has roots in political issues and economists cannot resolve the crisis.

Shaikh Abdol-Hamid believed that in order to solve the problems, the views of the proponents and the opponents should be heard.
Taking to the Sunni worshippers of Zahedan, capital of Iranian Balochistan before the Friday prayers, the most influential Iranian Sunni leader said: “Unfortunately, prices of essential goods are rising in the country day by day. Rising prices of goods have caused a great concern among people”.
“In order to solve economic problems, the officials, the cabinet of the government and all of us have a duty to deal with poverty, unemployment and rising prices of goods”, said the Friday prayer leader of Sunnis in Zahedan while addressing tens of thousands of worshippers in Zahedan city.
“The current economic pressures have made everyone upset and painful”, he said.
Referring to the dramatic rise in the prices of meat and bread prices by cutting off subsidies, Imam of the Grand Makki Mosque of Zahedan noted: “As reported by the news agencies, the price of bread is going to increase. Bread is the first need of people. Many people cannot afford to buy meat and rice. If the price of bread rises and this goes to be out of their access, their lives will be in danger”.
“Some officials say that we are compensating the increase of bread price in cash, while experience has shown that this is not possible; because in the past, the authorities made such promises but could not fulfill them. Therefore, do not increase the price of bread so that the low-income class, which is deprived of other many essential food items, can at least make bread. Unfortunately many families cannot afford to buy bread. All people are against raising the price of bread’, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid further said.
President of Darululoom Zahedan considered political problems as the source of economic crises and said: “I dare to say and I can prove that political issues are the source of economic problems in the country”.
Addressing the officials, the Friday Khateeb of Zahedan said: “In order to solve economic crises, solve political crises first. Do not refer to economists to solve economic problems. I assure you that economists cannot solve economic problems, because the root of the country’s economic problems is elsewhere. Review and change the country’s domestic and foreign policies”.
“Do not limit yourself to the opinions of the cabinet and government experts, but use the views of the seminary scholars who speak in the light of the Holy Qur’an and hadiths. Use the views of academics and intellectual people of the society”, he urged.
Mawlana Abdol-Hamid said: “If these issues are observed, the economic problems and all other problems will be solved, and the value of the country’s currency, which is now one of the weakest currencies in the world, will rise again”.
“Iran has resources and potentials that are not comparable to many other countries, but why is the country’s money so worthless?!” he asked.
“This makes the duty of the officials heavier. The officials must think of an urgent solution to this problem”, he concluded his opinions in this part of the sermon.

Perseverance in Shari’ah attracts blessings of heaven
In the first part of his speech at the Friday prayers ceremony of Zahedan, the most influential Iranian Sunni leader described living in this material world as a test and emphasized on perseverance in all the ups and downs of life.
He called the result of patience and perseverance fruitful for believers in both worlds.
Continuing his Friday speech, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid said: “God Almighty has made this world a place of testing. Some people think that they go to heaven only by believing in Allah, while Allah Almighty brings all kinds of hardships in life, such as plague, calamity, illness, and ups and downs, to determine who perseveres in faith. Whoever endures the hardships, sufferings and misfortunes of life and obeys Allah, He blesses him/her with peace and mercy”.
The Friday prayer leader of Sunnis in Zahedan considered patience as one of the biggest acts of worship and invited the audience to be patient.
To persevere in Shari’ah, president of Darululoom Zahedan emphasized on avoiding sins, respecting rights of people, and avoiding unlawful earnings.
Urging on perseverance in Shari’ah after Ramadan, Shaikh Abdol-Hamid said: “Anyone who neglects the divine commands after Ramadan, does not offer prayers and doesn’t attend mosques, commits all kinds of sins, he has not persevered on Shari’ah.”
“Encourage people to obey and respect the commands of Allah; do not be indifferent to the situation of the society. Consider yourself a soldier of Islam and defend the religion of Islam in all scenes”, said Mawlana Abdol-Hamid in his last points of the first part of the Friday speech of Zahedan.
