Press Conference of Mawlana Ab. Hamid in Zahedan

The outstanding Sunni leader, Mawlana Abdol-Hamid held a press conference in Zahedan, Iran, on the current issues of the Muslim world and the “Week of Unity” inside Iran.

The press conference was held in the office of Shaikh on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 where many local and national media correspondents and reporters asked their questions.

In his inaugural words, Khateeb of Sunnis in Zahedan congratulated the birthday of the last messenger, peace be upon him, saying that he was a mercy not only for Muslims but the entire universe and mankind got benefits of his blessings. He changed the culture and life style of people in the Arab regions; hate was replaced with love and fraternity.

He termed the fraternity among Muslims ‘Islamic’ and underlined, “There is another sort of brotherhood which is for all human beings; all of them should respect each other. People, from any religion and race, must not violate the rights of others. We, as Muslims, consider all human kinds ‘brothers-in-humanity’ but aggressors.”

The rector of Darululoom Zahedan alluded to the “Week of Unity” to be held in Iran and said, “Unity is not only for a week; it is the need of us in the whole life. This week is only symbolic and for glorification and examining the different angles of unity. It does not mean all Muslims should leave their thoughts and think as others think. We should focus on our mutual points and avoid insulting, blaming and hateful acts. So unity among Muslims is a religious duty not any political or interim slogan.”

In response to the question of a reporter about promises made by the current government, he said, “I am very optimisticas well as people particularly ethnic and religious sects seem to be hopefulin this regard. Although there has not been any salient step but the new government has succeeded to reduce both foreign and domestic problems of the country. I have told the president in my meeting with him to strive for a national reconciliation in the country; all communities and sects should be closer together. Both Shia and Sunni communities should avoid going to extremes, because Islam is the religion of temperance. We hope the rulers would take the advantage of capabilities of Iranian residents regardless to their race, views and sect.”

Pointing out to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, he said, “Regarding to the changes take place in Syria, Egypt and Iraq, I must clearly say our enemies are behind some incidents to ensure the security of Israel. The enemies of Islam want Muslim states to remain backward. Muslims should work hard unitedlywithout relying on the East or West. The ongoing civil war in Syria is not a war between Shia and Sunni Muslims; it is a fight for power. When they fail to reach to any agreement, they misuse the title of their sects. If the rulers distribute the key post justly, they will see positive changes.”

One of the reporters asked Shaikh Abdol-Hamid about the efforts made for establishing Sunni masjid in Tehran, he replied, “A great number of Sunni citizens live in the capital Tehran; they are in dire need to have a separate masjid. Many of Sunni travelers face problems in offering prayers. We hope this problem would be resolved soon.”

In response to another question about the term “Jihad of Nikah”, he said, “Neither Shias nor Sunnis can believe it; Jihad of Nikah is a baseless thing. Some extremists misuse the religious feelings and tenets of people to defame their opponents. ‘Suicide attacks’ were started by Palestinians to shake the world; they found this way useful to convey their voice to others. A man burned himself in Tunis; it was the arc of so called ‘Arab spring’ in the region. But the best way to get rid of ‘terrorism’ is dialogue.”

A reporter asked Khateeb of Sunnis about the beliefs of Sunni Muslimson the households of the prophet, peace be upon him; he said, “It is impossible for any Sunni to not love the household of the prophet; they love them as they love the Companions, may Allah be pleased with all of them. Sunnis select the names of the Households for their children as Shias cannot claim they do so more than Sunnis.”
