‘The world is compelled to follow Omar’s principles’

Mawlana Ahmad Narui, a senior teacher of Hadith at Darululoom Zahedan began his eloquent discourse by reading the Qur’anic verse: «مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَى وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهُ حَيَاةً طَيِّبَةً وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْرَهُم بِأَحْسَنِ مَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ», (Whoever, male or female, has acted righteously, while being a believer, We shall certainly make him live a good life, and shall give such people their reward for the best of what they used to do). He talked about the virtues of the Companions, particularly the second Caliph, Omar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with all of them.

Talking to tens of thousands in the Grand Mosalla of Sunnis in Zahedan, he pointed, ‘Allah Almighty is very wise; He has not left mankind alone. He provided His servants three directions to guide them: 1. Wisdom; by which human beings can analyze and check every thing. 2. Revelation, Wahy, and divine books; 3. Holy men; especially prophets who played an eternal role to reform human society. Specialists in Hadith and Fiqh gifted human beings a great and everlasting service by arranging the subjects.’

The assistant of Darululoom Zahedan’s rector in official affairs added more saying that the Guided Caliphs were the best of mankind after the prophets. They made very serious efforts to salve human beings. The first caliph was the man who stated bravely: «أینقص الدین و أنا حی. », it is impossible that Islam bears damages while I (Abu Bakr) am alive!

Then, he turned to express the features of the second caliph, Omar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, saying, ‘Farooq-e-A’dham invented such principles of governing that after passage of centuries people who want democracy need to follow his regulations. He was a Quraishi who got marriage many times. He had 13 children totally; 9 sons and 4 daughters. One of his wives was Omm-Kolthum daughter of Ali and Fatima, may Allah be pleased with them.’

After quoting some virtues of the third and fourth caliphs, he lightened the biography of Omar bin Khattab, saying that he used to appoint Ali the Emir of Muslim. Ali was a good advisor of him to all matters. When Omar got martyrdom, Ali turned his face to Omar’s corpse saying: ‘I wish Allah resurrect you with your two friends, Holy Prophet and Abu-Bakr As-Seddiq; I listened many times Holy Prophet calling names of Abu-Bakr and Omar together.’ This is the history of Sahabah and Muslims of the first centuries.

Shaikh Narui pointed that the Companions had a very friendly relationship; they used to respect each other humbly. Do not believe the false claims of bigoted and extremist elements in this regard.

He underlined saying, ‘People everywhere are eager of “justice” and equality. The concept of Omar from justice was that the cruelty and discrimination as well as classism should be eliminated. Rich and poor should have equal access to law and rulers. He proved these points by his deeds and actions. As once he scolded his governor in Egypt, Amr bin al-Aas, over punishing Abd-ur-Rahman bin Omar in home not in any public place before all. He said that there was not any difference between his son and others’ sons.’

The teacher of Hadith went on to say more about the life of Omar, ‘The second caliph had particular rules and regulations in appointment of governors which were derived from the Qur’an and Sunnah. Today’s rulers have no remedy but to imitate him in this field. Some of the rules are as following:
1. To have the force of implementation;
2. Honesty;
3. Wisdom and specialization;
4. Clear sightedness and view;
5. kindness and mercy;
6. To do not have desire for rank and position;
7. Registering the amount of governors’ wealth (money balance) before and after appointment;
8. Trusting on the local people of each area. He always reminded his governors to take care of minorities;
9. Ensuring personal privacy of people, he never punished any one because of his brother or father’s fault;
10. Freedom of thinking and speech was the principle of his government. Many storied prove it;
11. He used to respect previous officials; he was utilizing the experiences of previous officials by reserving their respect.

At the end, Mawlana Ahmad urged saying that Omar, Radhi-Allahu ‘Anhu, announced there is no any discrimination between Arab and non-Arab. All were enjoying equal rights and ranks in his era.
