Iran: Sunni Imams reprehend authorities over interference

Zahedan- The prominent Sunni imams and Khotaba’ in the Iranian Balochistan contested the disputable bill of the state-run Cultural Council to control Sunni seminaries in Friday and Eid sermons.

According to our sources, Sunnis’ well-oriented Khateebs criticized the Iranian government’s new step to be all-in-all of the Sunni seminaries (religious schools) by changing the title of previous draft into “Planning Council for Sunni Seminaries”. They condemned the restraint of some Sunni scholars from Hajj, pilgrimage, in previous days in Iran.

Khateeb, Friday Imam, of Khash city Mawlana Muhammad Gul castigated the sinister pressure by the authorities upon the Sunni community. He asked the rulers to terminate their grim policies in the province and entire country.

The eminent Sunni scholar pointed that the religious affairs of Sunnis concern to the Sunnis not to any Shia-based department. The constitution affirms Sunnis’ religious and educational freedom; no one is allowed to prevent Sunnis from their basic rights. “The Planning Council for Sunni Seminaries” is against our freedom and an absurd attempt to control Sunnis’ religious schools.

‘We accept surveillance of the related authorities, as the past; interference is unacceptable in any time,’ the rector of “Makhzan-ul-Uloom” seminary of Khash stated.

Addressing hundreds of worshippers in Khash city, Shaikh Muhammad Gul declared the stoppage of some prominent Sunni scholars from Hajj and confiscation of some others’ passports “disgrace” of Sunni religious scholars. ‘It was painful and shocking news for the Sunni community of Iran’, he added more.

Khateeb of Khash’s Sunnis concluded his speech by advising Muslim rulers to byword from the admonitory end of “Bin Ali”, “Gaddafi” and “Hosni Mubark”.

‘The Plan caused Sunnis’ pine’
Mawlana Abdul Hameed Jahandide, Khateeb of Sib-o-Suran city, south-east Iran, refused the government intrusion in the Sunnis’ internal affairs putting the “Planning Council” of the Cultural Council unacceptable.

‘It (the council) made the Sunni community of Iran disturbed; we have studied the details of that planning, it conduces to violate our freedom and independence,’ he further added.

Shaikh Jahandide emphasized that the implement of the plan would end Sunnis’ trust as it is for interfering. ‘The authorities must know that meddling in our religious matters create disputes and sectarian violence,’ he stated.

He pointed that most of the staff members of the Planning Council are Shias, few Sunnis are participated who are not reliable at Sunnis of Iran.

According to receiving reports to “SunniOnline”, most of the Sunni Imams and preachers of Sistan-Balochistan rebuked the overwhelming pressure on Sunnis and asked the rulers to disband the illegal plan and discriminative policies over the Sunni minority in Iran.
