Renowned Islamic Scholar Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadwi Passed away

President of All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AlMPLB) Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadwi passed away peacefully in Lucknow this afternoon on April 13th, 2023. He was 93 and brought to Lucknow for treatment, where he died at the Nadwa Madrasa in Daliganj.

AIMPLB has announced the death of its president on Twitter, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Hazrat Maulana Syed Muhammad Rabey Hasani Nadwi Sahab, the President of @AIMPLB_Official. May Allah (SWT) grant him maghfirah and bless him with the highest rank in Jannah. We request everyone to pray for his maghfirah.”

As the news of Maulana’s death came out, many took to Twitter to express anguish and pay their respects to Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadwi.

Zafarul Islam Khan, former chairman Delhi Minorities Commission, called Rabey Hasani “the greatest surviving Muslim personality in India” whose contribution towards the field of education was immense.

“Deeply saddened by the passing away of Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadwi ji, President of All India Muslim Personal Law Board. A well-known Islamic scholar, his contributions to the advancement of education shall always be remembered. Our thoughts are with his family and followers,” wrote Mllikargun Kharge, president of Indian National Congress (INC) and MP on Twitter.
Moreover, Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadwi was as the chancellor of Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama, patron of Islamic Fiqh Academy, New Delhi and the vice president of the Aalami Rabita Adab-e-Islami in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) as well. He was a founding member of the Muslim World League. He was regularly listed in the publication The 500 Most Influential Muslims.

According to Wikipedia, Maulana Rabey Hasani Nadwi was born on 1 October 1929 to Rasheed Ahmad Hasani in Takia Kalan, Raebareli district of Uttar Pradesh state in India. He was a nephew of author and reformer Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi. He graduated from Darul Uloom Nadwatul Ulama in 1948. He studied at the Darul Uloom Deoband for one year, and also travelled to Hejaz for his higher studies. He studied Arabic language and literature, majorly with his uncle Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi. His other teachers included Abdul Qadir Raipuri, Abrarul Haq Haqqi and Hussain Ahmad Madani.
Maulana Nadwi succeeded Maulana Mujahidul Islam Qasmi as the president of AIMPLB. He guided the Muslim community towards using the media in a better way. During a conference in 2016, he said, “The day when Muslims will hold command over media will definitely be a better day not only for Muslims but for the rest of the world”.

Maulana Rabey Hasani was an accomplished author and has written several books on Islamic theology, including a commentary on the Holy Quran. The legacy of Maulana is distinguishable and unparalleled, will continue to inspire future generations to come. He made immense contribution to the field of education will be remembered forever with great respect, and his pivotal role in reforming Muslim society is unmatchable. He was one of the most prolific reformer of our post independence history.
