Iran’s Sunni leader:

Ruling Religious View Couldn’t Bring Justice and Equality in Iran

Ruling Religious View Couldn’t Bring Justice and Equality in Iran

The most influential Iranian Sunni leader considered the religious sectarian perspective to be the main cause of political failure in Iran after the 1979 Revolution. He emphasized the need to establish an inclusive government that respects the will of all Iranians regardless of their faith, language, and orientation.
Shaikh Abdol-Hamid was talking to the people of Zahedan in the presence of tens of thousands of people on Mar 17, 2023 where he said ruling the country with armed forces halts development.

Allah does not tolerate oppression
The Friday prayer leader of Sunnis in Zahedan considered torture, violation of other’s rights, assault and killing people as major sins and said: “Oppression is such a big sin that is worse than polytheism and disbelief, but Allah never tolerates injustice. Allah does not tolerate oppression, torture, murder, and violation of others’ rights. Beware of the sighs and cries of the oppressed.”
“The holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, stressed: ‘Be afraid of the sigh of the oppressed.’ The cry of the oppressed burns houses, ruins destiny and destroys people’s name and fame. Polytheism is the worst of all sins, but it is related to the rights of Allah; but oppression is about the rights of people, and it is intolerable for Allah,” said the president of Darululoom Zahedan.

Narrow-minded officials make the life for masses difficult
Criticizing that narrow-minded people have taken the administration of the country, the Iranian top Sunni cleric stated: “I am going to analyze what have been going on in our country for 44 years. Vision is very important. If the view is narrow and limited, problems arise. God’s vision is wide. Allah rules the entire world. He considers everything with a very comprehensive view. Allah provides sustenance to all creatures in the world. Even those who blaspheme Allah, associate others with Him, and end deny His existence, He gives them sustenance. Allah does not reprimand wrongdoers, and gives them a respite so that they may repent and return.”
“In ethics, we must deal with people in a method that satisfies Allah Almighty. Narrow vision creates problems even in the family. Officials who have a narrow view, people are under their pressure. A high vision is God’s mercy,” said Shaikh Abdol-Hamid in his Friday sermons in the Grand Musalla of Zahedan.

People protest and demonstrate due to religious narrow views
Referring to the particular religious conception ruling the country since the 1979 revolution, the Iranian Sunni leader noted: “What has been happening in our country is due to religious views. Sect is a concept and a branch of Islam. The circle of faith is wider, but the circle of sect/school of thought is limited. When views became religious in our country, sights became narrow. It is because of the religious point of view that people from different tendencies, sects, and faiths including Shia, Sunni, etc. are protesting today.”
“Sunnis complain that they have been suffering from discrimination for 43 years. The capable people of Sunnis have not been appointed in national and provincial administrative positions. Sunnis form the second majority of the population in the country. Sunnis of Iran ask where is our share in government centers, armed forces, and judiciary?” said the president of Darululoom Zahedan.

Even Shiites complain of discriminatory
Shaikh Abdol-Hamid alluded to the wide circle of discrimination in Iran and said: “Even our dear Shia compatriots complain about discrimination. The capable Shiite people, including academics, experts and intellectuals, have deprived of major positions because of religious views; they were told that they were not adhering to religion. Many candidates pretend to be religious, and infiltrate in government institutes,” said Shaikh Abdol-Hamid.
The eminent scholar of Iranian Balochistan said: “Many Iranian brains flee the country due to the strict filters and selections. Justice has never been implemented among the ethnicities, sects, and pluralities of the Iranian nation. This is a true interpretation that the Iranian nation is like a rainbow. This great nation is made up of various colors, like a rainbow. The religious view could not implement equality among these colors. Today, our country has faced a deadlock in terms of international and domestic policies; all these deadlocks are fruits of this religious point of view.”

Military outlook paralyzes the country
Imam of the Grand Makki Mosque of Zahedan referred to the wrong policies that have been paralyzing the country and noted: “The view that aims to securitize the country ban the state from the progress and development. In elections, we voted for the presidential candidates on the condition to remove the security environment from our province. Today, the security and military point of view prevails in the entire country. Now the administrative posts are given to military individuals.”
He added: “We are not against the military and security individuals, but we are well-wishers to them. No country will develop as long as military forces rule that country. A military point of view paralyzes the country and destroys the economy. This view must be removed from our country.”
“The government’s view should be comprehensive and national. The perspective should not be religious. The religious sectarian view fails. It does not matter what religion it is. I am not talking about a particular sect. The vision should be national, trans-ethnic, trans-faction, and trans-party. One faction, one ethnicity and one sect cannot rule the country successfully,” Shaikh Abdol-Hamid believed.

There should be no need for the police to be on the streets
The Friday prayer leader of Sunnis in Zahedan continued his speech by saying: “Those who live on the borders emphasize on preserving the territorial integrity, security, and national unity of the country. Everyone should have an equal share in the interests of the country. All capable Iranians should have equal opportunities to be hired in official positions regardless of their creed, faith, and party; such a view can remove dead ends. There should be no need for the police to be on the streets.”

The sectarian view caused the fall of value of the national currency
The Iranian top Sunni cleric considered sectarian viewpoints harmful to the national interests, saying: “When the vision is high, constraints and pressures are removed, livelihood problems are solved and money gets value. Why the national currency of our country is one of the most worthless currencies in the world? The fact is that the sectarian religious viewpoint has brought our country here. This view harms the sect and the religion of Islam too, and we see these damages today.”
“Elders, officials, scholars, and thinkers should think about this issue and solve these problems,” Shaikh Abdol-Hamid underlined.

We never say what only our viewpoint is right
Believing that no one should insist that his\her viewpoint is right, the Iranian Sunnis’ leader said: “We never say what we think is right. We do not insist on our point of view as the only correct view. Not only in Iran but also in the entire world, what makes a political system successful, is pluralism and paying attention to everyone. We believe that everyone has a perception and opinion. We can never say that only our opinion is right; rather, it is possible that sometimes our opinion is right, and sometimes the opinion of others.”
“We do not say that those who do not think like us are wrong. We respect everyone’s opinion”, he stated.
The Friday prayer leader of Sunnis in Zahedan said: “Here, anyone who chants any slogan is free to chant. We only emphasize that no one should offend others. We should not insult anyone. This is what the holy Qur’an teaches us. Raise your demands and chant slogans wisely, and do not insult other’s beliefs.”

You resisted in the right way
The most outstanding Iranian Sunni scholar continued his Friday speech by addressing the people of Zahedan and said: “I pray for all of you. All of you resisted in the way of the truth, whatever your thoughts are; it does not matter. We were oppressed here; a group of us unjustly was martyred, and a larger number of our people were injured. We said that insecurity should not spread in the region, and we are talking. You chanted, and we did not inspire you what to say in slogans. We said we will talk, but we will not create an atmosphere of war and insecurity in the region. You maintained the security; this is a good thing. You have waited too long. We do not say that nothing was done, but these steps are insufficient, and we have not gained our rights yet.”
Shaikh Abdol-Hamid urged: “Those who committed this crime must be punished in front of the people.”
“I would like to thank all our people including scholars, tribal elders, and activists who cooperated. No one should slander anyone, and do not be suspicious of anyone. Some have said that there has been a deal. No, nothing happened; we will continue to get the rights,” he added more.

Get the country out of the deadlock by submitting before the majority
The Iranian top Sunni leader considered paying attention to the demands of the majority of the people as the only way to get the country out of the deadlock.
He said: “In my opinion, the country will rescue from the current crisis if the government surrenders to the will of the majority of the people; by this way the country can be rescued from this deadlock.
“This is the best way. If you do this, the nation may show forgiveness about many things,” he said in his last points.
At the end, the most influential Iranian Sunni leader inspired the people to help Darululoom Zahedan, the biggest scientific and social center of the Sunni community in Iran, and the Grand Makki Mosque, financially.
