Stop Insulting Sanctities

Editorial note

It has been common for the Iranian Sunnis to observe vilification of their religious sanctities. Mostly, politicians, some religious figures and media anchors are the pioneer actors of this disreputable series in Iran. Now, a sportsman and football coach, insulted the great companion, Amr ibn al-ʿĀṣ, may Allah be pleased with him, in an interview with Daily Qanoon. Comparing his opponents with the sincere companion of the Beloved Prophet, peace be upon him, the former player of the Iranian National Football Team hurt the feelings of millions of Muslims around the world.
It is not the first time Mr. Ghalenoei attack on the great personality of Amr ibn al-ʿĀṣ, may Allah increase his eminence. According to the records of his statements –which are available on the cyber space–, he has insulted the sanctities of Sunnis five times before. Until now, he is the only sportsman who openly insults the sanctities of the majority of Muslims around the world. It seems, surprisingly he only knows about Amr ibn al-ʿĀṣ, may Allah be pleased with him; his all insulting statements roam around his name.
This non-stop series can be controlled only by the involvement of the official authorities. The Supreme Leader and some other Shia scholars have issued fatwa forbidding their followers of insulting the Companions. But it looks to not work; thus there must be official verdicts and legislations to punish blasphemers and insulters who only add fuel to the burning fire of sectarian disputes and conflicts in the region.
