An Iranian Sunni Wins Qur’an Memorization Competition

Abdol-Ghafour Joharchi, a visually-impaired memorizer of the Noble Qur’an won the final round of the 33rd international Qur’an competitions in Tehran on May 16, 2016.
The first edition of the international Quran competition for the visually-impaired was held in the Iranian capital of Tehran concurrent with the country’s annual international Qur’an contest.
Abdol-Ghafour Joharchi, a Sunni citizen from Taaybad, northeastern Khorasan Razavi province. He was representing Iran in the final competition of the visually-impaired memorizers of the Noble Qur’an.
Mr. Joharchi is a Qur’an teacher at Ahnaaf Taaybad and Anwarululoom Khairabad, two famous Islamic seminaries of the Sunnis in Khorasan province of Iran.
