The Egyptian prosecutor-general on Sunday referred Mohamed al-Zawahri, the brother of Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri, and 67 others to criminal court on charges of founding and running an Al-Qaeda-linked organization.
In a statement, the prosecutor-general said the group had plotted to target state institutions, the army, the police and Christian citizens.
Fifty of the suspects are already in custody while the 18 others remain at large.
