The Iranian Sunni members of the parliament (Majlis) have asked the authorities to try the directors of ‘Velayat’ TV following insulting Shaikh Abdol-Hamid, the most influential Iranian Sunni scholar.
Writing a letter to the speaker of the parliament (Majlis), they termed the Qom-based satellite TV channel ‘sectarian’ and ‘asperser’ which creates disputes and provokes people.
The MPs asked the head of the legislation element to try the insulting TV channel through judicial and security officials.
There are 19 Sunnis in the Islamic Council Majlis of Iran.
Apart from the Sunni MPs, dozens of scholars, Friday imams, intellectuals and users of the social media also decried the provocative act of the TV.
Shaikh Abdol-Hamid is the rector of Darululoom Zahedan, the biggest Islamic seminary in Iran and chairman of the Coordination Council of Sunni Seminaries in Sistan-Balochistan.
