The prominent Iranian Sunni leader urged on the ‘necessity of revising some parts of the constitution’ in order to legitimize candidacy of Sunni citizens to run for presidential election.
Talking to thousands of Sunnis citizens on Friday 21st April, 2017 in Saravan city of Balochistan, Iran, Mawlana Abdol-Hamid said: “We believe in unity and peace in any condition. The Iranian Sunnis follow up the case of their due rights by legal channels.”
“There should not be any discrimination between Iranian Shias and Sunnis. The article about the presidency in the national constitution should be revised and changed. Both Shias and Sunnis have the right to run for the office of presidency. This change is in accordance with the sagacity and logic,” the rector of Darululoom Zahedan and member of the supreme council of the MWL underlined.
Shaikh Abdol-Hamid said more: “The constitution is not any divine revelation, rather it has been codified and prepared by human beings. There are some articles and clauses which need to be changed.”
He concluded his points by saying that all Iranian casts, ethnic and religious communities should have equal rights to occupy any official seat. Shaikh Isma’eelzahi urged: “There must not be any discrimination among the people. We should know our enemies well.”
