At least 15 people were killed and scores injured in a suicide bombing in north-eastern Iraq on Monday, according to an Iraqi police officer.
A bomber detonated an explosives-laden vehicle at a security checkpoint at the northern entrance of al-Khalis town, lieutenant Mahmoud al-Dalwi said.
“Fifteen people were killed and 33 others injured in the attack,” he said.
According to al-Dalwi, the bombing struck as scores of cars were lining up for security inspection at the checkpoint.
The attack has damaged several cars and nearby buildings, he said.
There has been no claim of responsibility for Monday’s attack.
Iraq authorities, however, often blame the attacks on ISIL group, which overran vast territory in northern and western Iraq in 2014.
