Answer
Wa `alaykum as-salamu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
All praise and thanks are due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
Dear brother, thank you for your question and your care about your Muslim brothers and sisters.
We, as Muslims, are ordained to first verify any information upon which we make judgments. So, you have to do that; the news you are referring to in your question are merely false and fabricated news-stories that have been circulated for unfair purposes.
Responding to your question, Dr. Wael Shihab, PhD in Islamic Studies, Al-Azhar University, and the Head of the Shari`ah Dept. of Onislam.net website, stated,
Thank you for your question.
In fact, innocent and helpless people of Syria are facing inhuman and brutal capital crimes at the hands of one of the most corrupt and oppressive leaders and regimes of the world. The Syrian dictator is severely and mercilessly attacking people’s lives, honor, and properties. It is thus the duty of all fair peoples and human communities to spare no efforts to defend the helpless Syrians and relieve their unbearable suffering.
As for the groundless rumors and lies about “sex jihad” in Syria, or in any other part of the world, they are circulated by biased and dishonest media outlets for unfair objectives. I have come across some reports that prove that the “Syrian regime is waging a PR campaign to spread stories that discredit its rivals and distract from its own crimes. Aided by gullible networks and foreign media, it has included tales of rebels engaging in “sex jihad” and massacring Christians.”
Muslims, as a matter of fact, deny and steer clear of all such immoral and illegal marital relations. There is nothing in Islam that is called “sex Jihad”. It is nothing but a mere fabrication and falsehood.
Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and an Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, adds,
Allah orders us to verify the information we get before we make judgments. By doing so, we may end up making false allegations, which is considered an abomination in Islam.
Mind you there is no dearth of false information put out by people simply for propaganda purposes; even wars were waged on the false pretext of hunting for weapons of mass destruction, which never existed in the first place. It was only after millions perished in such wars that the truth was uncovered.
So, those we must be extremely careful not to run with the news that we read in the media which thrives on sensationalism. They often do spread lies in order to serve their own vested interests.
I pray to Allah to cleanse our tongues from lies, our hearts from hypocrisy and our actions from ostentation.
