Pakistan’s parliament committee demands US apology for attack

A Pakistani parliamentary committee has demanded an apology from the United States for the airstrike last November in which more than two dozen soldiers were killed.
On Tuesday, the committee on national security called the attack a “blatant violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Moreover, the committee said that “Pakistan should seek an unconditional apology from the US for the unprovoked incident.”
Pakistan’s parliament has now opened a debate on the committee’s suggestion.
The demand comes following a US-led NATO airstrike in November, 2011, which killed 26 Pakistani soldiers near the country’s border with Afghanistan.
In response to the airstrike, Pakistan stopped the supply convoys destined for US-led forces in Afghanistan. Islamabad also called on the US to vacate an airbase in Balochistan province.
Relations between Islamabad and Washington have significantly deteriorated in the past year over US drone strikes in the northwestern tribal belt of the country.
