A Muslim woman has translated the Holy Quran into the Hungarian language.
Halima Zsuzsanna Kiss says she converted to Islam after being impressed by Muslims co-workers.
A Hungarian Turkish organization, the Cultural Foundation, introduced the new Hungarian translation of the Holy Quran to Hungary’s media and citizens during a press conference and public event held in the capitol city of Budapest.
The event was attended by embassy officials from Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan, Morocco, Azerbaijan, Lebanon, Egypt, Qatar, and Malaysia; and deputies from the Hungarian Parliament; as well as members of the general public Turks and Hungarians living in the this country attended the meeting. Some Christian clergy and Jews also participated the program.
The program started with recitation from the Holy Quran by Osman Sahin, the imam of Istanbul’s famous Fatih Mosque.
Ms. Kiss, who is the head of women’s affairs for the ethnic Hungarian Muslim organization MIK, said that it took her 3 years to translate the Qur’an into Hungarian.
Adding that previous translation efforts did not satisfy anyone, Ms. Kiss said her Hungarian translation has been reviewed by Muslim scholars and approved by Hungary’s Muslim council.
The earliest translation of the Qur’an into Hungarian, Kassai Korán, was produced by Hollósi Somogyi József in the 19th century.
