US-led airstrike kills 25 Afghans

A fresh US-led airstrike has claimed the lives of at least twenty-five people in the eastern Kunar province in war-ravaged Afghanistan. NATO claims that those killed in the Sunday airstrike were all Taliban militants. But the Afghan government has not confirmed the NATO report yet.

The attack comes following another US-led aerial attack on Saturday that resulted in the deaths of at least seven people in eastern Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, a Taliban spokesman claimed their forces have killed at least ten foreign soldiers in Kunar and Helmand provinces.
On Saturday, a US airstrike killed seven employees of a road-construction company in Paktia province. NATO and the US military claim the attacks are aimed at militants and their hide-outs, but they often result in civilian casualties.

14 Afghan policemen killed, Taliban

The Taliban claim they have killed 14 members of the Afghan national police at a police checkpoint in the northern part of the country.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told the Afghan Islamic Press that the militants fatally shot 14 policemen on Saturday during an attack on a checkpoint in Baghlan province.
A police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident but rejected the alleged death toll.
In another incident on the same day, nine police officers were abducted after their remote post was overrun by militants in Balkh province.
The Taliban also claimed that their forces killed 13 Afghan policemen by detonation a car in the District Headquarter of Police in Kandahar city, about 15 vehicles destroyed in the headquarter car parking.
A spokesman of Taliban claimed death of 6 foreigner soldiers and 13 Afghan security personal in a suicide attack on a joint check point in Chahardarra district of Knduz province in northern Afghanistan.
The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in December 1979 and Soviet troops withdrew from the country in February 1989, after a little less than nine years and two months of war.
The United States and some of its allies invaded Afghanistan in October 2001. The US-led troops have now been fighting in Afghanistan longer than the Soviet occupation and war.
2010 has been the deadliest year of the nine-year war in Afghanistan, with casualties among civilians and foreign troops at record levels, mainly due to an increase in Taliban attacks.
As casualties have risen in Afghanistan over the past few months, public opinion has begun turning against the war in the United States and other countries.
In addition, hundreds of civilians have lost their lives in US-led operations in various parts of Afghanistan over the past few months, with Afghans becoming more and more outraged over the seemingly endless number of deadly assaults.
