India has revoked the passport of Islamic preacher Zakir Naik after he repeatedly ignored requests to present himself before the India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA).
According to the Times of India, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had acted on a request by the NIA, which is probing Zakir over terrorism and money laundering.
The preacher, best known as a public speaker and TV preacher, has been accused of spreading hatred, funding terrorists and money laundering.
He has been banned from countries such as Canada and the UK, but is welcomed by many Muslim countries including Malaysia, where he enjoys permanent residency.
Zakir fled India in July 2016 after terrorists in Bangladesh claimed that they were inspired by his speeches on waging jihad. His current whereabouts are unknown.
In recent months, however, he has given interviews and conducted a press conference through Skype from Saudi Arabia.
Zakir also claimed he received citizenship offers from at least 10 countries, but had not taken up any offer yet.India has revoked the passport of Islamic preacher Zakir Naik after he repeatedly ignored requests to present himself before the India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA).
