{"id":7338,"date":"2017-03-11T08:01:01","date_gmt":"2017-03-11T08:01:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/?p=7338"},"modified":"2017-03-11T08:01:01","modified_gmt":"2017-03-11T08:01:01","slug":"palestinian-ends-hunger-strike-as-israel-agrees-his-release","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/2017\/03\/11\/7338\/","title":{"rendered":"Palestinian ends hunger strike as Israel agrees his release"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An imprisoned Palestinian journalist ended a 32-day hunger strike on Friday after receiving assurances Israel would not extend his detention without trial next month, his wife and lawyer said.<!--more--><br \/>\nIt will be the second time within a year that 34-year-old Mohammed al-Qiq, who works for the Saudi television channel Al-Majd, has been released by Israel from so-called administrative detention following a prolonged hunger strike.<br \/>\nAn Israeli military court ruled on Thursday that Qiq\u2019s detention would not be extended when it expired next month, his lawyer Khaled Zabarqa told AFP.<br \/>\nQiq\u2019s wife, Fayha Shalash, said that the journalist, hospitalized near Tel Aviv, has ended his hunger strike and called his release expected on April 14 a \u201cjudicial victory.\u201d<br \/>\nThe Israel Prison Service confirmed to AFP he had stopped refusing food and would be released next month.<br \/>\nIn May 2016, Qiq was released from a six-month prison term without trial following a 94-day hunger strike.<br \/>\nHe was arrested again in January near the West Bank city of Ramallah for alleged \u201cterror activity\u201d on behalf of the Islamist group Hamas, the Shin Bet domestic security service said at the time, a claim he denied.<br \/>\nHe was also accused of undermining the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority.<br \/>\nA military court in February ordered he be imprisoned for six months which were later reduced to three.<br \/>\nThe controversial Israeli administrative detention laws allow the state to hold suspects without trial for periods of six months, renewable indefinitely.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <em><strong>Alarabiya<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An imprisoned Palestinian journalist ended a 32-day hunger strike on Friday after receiving assurances Israel would not extend his detention without trial next month, his wife and lawyer said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":7341,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[32],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-7338","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-c59-islamic-world"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
