{"id":3952,"date":"2014-12-25T07:28:30","date_gmt":"2014-12-25T07:28:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp3\/?p=3952"},"modified":"2014-12-25T07:28:30","modified_gmt":"2014-12-25T07:28:30","slug":"pakistan-to-use-army-courts-for-terror-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/2014\/12\/25\/3952\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan to use army courts for terror cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.3em; color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/stories\/news3\/pak-army.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" align=\"right\" \/>Pakistan has announced plans to set up special military-run courts to prosecute terrorism suspects as part of a new anti-terrorism plan following the Taliban school massacre that killed 149 people, including 132 children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In a live televised address to the nation on Wednesday, Pakistan&#8217;s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced 25 new counter-terrorism policies, with military-run courts among the most controversial.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;Special courts, headed by the officers of armed forces, will be established for the speedy trial of terrorists,&#8221; he said.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sharif gave few details about how the courts would function, except to say they would operate for the next two years and that changes to current laws would be needed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;The Peshawar attack has shocked the nation. We will not let the blood of our children go in vain,&#8221; he said.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sharif also mentioned plans to cutting off financial aid to &#8220;terrorists&#8221; and methods to prevent banned organisations from operating with new names.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Crackdown on fighters<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The &#8220;plan of action&#8221; included a wide range of measures including constitutional amendments, banning space for &#8220;terrorists&#8221; in electronic and print media, destroying their communication systems, and the repatriation of Afghan refugees.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The prime minister also announced the formation of a special anti-terrorism force and reforms of religious seminaries known as madrassas. <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In the wake of the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) attack on December 16 that killed 149 people , the military stepped up operations in tribal areas, and the government reinstated the death penalty.
