{"id":3947,"date":"2014-12-23T07:25:06","date_gmt":"2014-12-23T07:25:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp3\/?p=3947"},"modified":"2014-12-23T07:25:06","modified_gmt":"2014-12-23T07:25:06","slug":"pakistan-to-execute-500-taliban-militants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/2014\/12\/23\/3947\/","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan to execute 500 Taliban militants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/stories\/news3\/taliban-pakistan.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" align=\"right\" \/>Germany has condemned Pakistan&#8217;s decision to execute 500 militans in the coming weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The comments by Germany\u2019s deputy foreign minister spokeswoman Sawsan Chebli on Monday come after Pakistan&#8217;s decision to execute imprisoned militants after a Taliban attack that killed 142 people, mostly children, in the city of Peshawar last week.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;I want to point out the moratorium implemented by Pakistan in 2008 is the best way,&#8221; Chebli said.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Chebli added: &#8220;At this point, as underlined many times before, the death penalty is an inhuman and cruel way of punishment.&#8221;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">German policy remains opposed to the death penalty.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pakistan imposed the moratorium on capital punishment following reported pressure from the European Union; however, the country has lifted the de facto ban after the deadly army-run school attack in Peshawar.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Six militants have been hanged since Friday amid rising public anger over Tuesday&#8217;s slaughter.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After the deadliest terror attack in Pakistani history, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif ended the six-year moratorium on the death penalty, reinstating it for terrorism-related cases.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;Interior ministry has finalized the cases of 500 convicts who have exhausted all the appeals, their mercy petitions have been turned down by the president and their executions will take place in coming weeks,&#8221; a senior government official told AFP on condition of anonymity.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A second official confirmed the information.
