{"id":3884,"date":"2014-11-15T07:25:53","date_gmt":"2014-11-15T07:25:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp3\/?p=3884"},"modified":"2014-11-15T07:25:53","modified_gmt":"2014-11-15T07:25:53","slug":"israel-drops-age-limits-for-aqsa-access","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/2014\/11\/15\/3884\/","title":{"rendered":"Israel drops age limits for Aqsa access"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/stories\/news3\/temple_mount_map.jpg\" border=\"0\" style=\"float: right; margin: 5px;\" \/>Israeli authorities have dropped restrictions on access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem, allowing worshippers of all ages into the holy city.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Israeli police said Thursday that there will be no age restrictions on Muslim worshipers for Friday prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The decision came shortly after a meeting in Amman between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Jordan\u2019s King Abdullah II and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After the meeting, Netanyahu said that Israel was committed to preserving the current situation at holy sites in East Jerusalem, according to a statement by the Jordanian royal court.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A top American diplomat also said \u201csteps had been agreed upon to lower tensions between Israel and the Palestinians over Jerusalem\u2019s holy site,\u201d Israeli media reported.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Earlier this month, Jordan \u2013 which is responsible for Jerusalem&#8217;s holy sites in line with a 1994 peace treaty with Israel \u2013 has recently recalled its ambassador in Tel Aviv to protest Israeli &#8220;violations&#8221; in East Jerusalem.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tension has run high in East Jerusalem since late last month, when Israel closed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound for several hours after an extremist rabbi was injured in a West Jerusalem drive-by shooting.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Unrest mounted further when Israeli forces killed a young Palestinian man suspected of shooting the rabbi in a raid on his East Jerusalem home.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Further aggravating the situation, a number of Israeli parliamentarians have forced their way into the mosque complex in recent days and weeks, drawing the ire of Muslim worshippers and official condemnation from Arab and Muslim countries.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For Muslims, Al-Aqsa represents the world&#8217;s third holiest site. Jews, for their part, refer to the area as the &#8220;Temple Mount,&#8221; claiming it was the site of two Jewish temples in ancient times.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Middle East War.
