{"id":3780,"date":"2014-08-30T06:14:53","date_gmt":"2014-08-30T06:14:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp3\/?p=3780"},"modified":"2014-08-30T06:14:53","modified_gmt":"2014-08-30T06:14:53","slug":"taliban-militants-abduct-5-afghan-police-officers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/2014\/08\/30\/3780\/","title":{"rendered":"Taliban militants abduct 5 Afghan police officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/stories\/news3\/taliban-Reuters.jpg\" border=\"0\" style=\"float: right; margin: 5px;\" \/>Five police officers have been kidnapped by Taliban militants during an attack in Afghanistan&#8217;s western province of Herat, an official says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;About 20 militants stormed a checkpoint in the Obe district this afternoon,&#8221; said Sher Agha, a Herat police official, on Friday.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Agha added that the officers were abducted along with their weapons, but he did not give further details.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The incident marks the latest in a series of violent attacks against Afghan security forces.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In a separate incident, unknown armed men gunned down the head of the Nuristan High Peace Council in the Afghan capital Kabul late on Thursday.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;Abdul Haleem was on his way home from a mosque after the evening prayer when two gunmen opened fire on him,&#8221; said an official in the eastern province of Nuristan, who asked not to be named.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Taliban militants have recently stepped up attacks against US-led and Afghan forces, vowing a new wave of attacks across Afghanistan.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The militant group has said it would use \u201cevery possible tactic\u201d to inflict casualties on Afghan and US-led forces. They specifically mentioned insider attacks and bombings.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The announcement comes as the Afghan authorities have increased operations against the militants across the country.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The United States and its allies invaded Afghanistan in 2001 as part of the so-called war on terror.
