{"id":3759,"date":"2014-08-18T05:52:16","date_gmt":"2014-08-18T05:52:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp3\/?p=3759"},"modified":"2014-08-18T05:52:16","modified_gmt":"2014-08-18T05:52:16","slug":"un-218000-palestinians-forcibly-displaced-by-israel-in-gaza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/2014\/08\/18\/3759\/","title":{"rendered":"UN: 218,000 Palestinians forcibly displaced by Israel in Gaza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/stories\/news3\/ghazza-palestini-003.jpg\" border=\"0\" style=\"float: right; margin: 5px 4px;\" \/>Thousands of Palestinians have been forcibly displaced from their own and only homes due to the ongoing Israeli military offensive that has been rocking besieged Gaza for over a month, a UN report revealed on Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">According to a statement released on Saturday by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OCHA), the rate of Palestinians who have been displaced due to mounting Israeli acts of terror in Gaza has gone up to 218,000, all sheltering in 87 UN-run schools across the Gaza Strip.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Earlier, the Palestine Liberation Organization\u2019s Gaza Under Fire Report announced \u201cOver 485,000 people have been displaced (almost one third of the Gaza population) \u20131,800,000 people (the entire population of the Gaza Strip) have been affected by the destruction of electricity, water and waste water infrastructures.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">According to the UN report, alternative housing is currently needed for the approximately 100,000 people whose homes have either been completely destroyed or severely damaged.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A total of 230 schools have sustained some degree of damage, including 90 UNRWA schools. 25 schools have been razed to the ground, OCHA added.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">According to the report, cash assistance of more than US$68 million is needed for some 16,792 families to cover rental fees and urgent expenses after having fallen prey to severe damage throughout the Gaza offensive.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">OCHA warned of the deadly risks lying ahead of Gaza civilians, particularly children, farmers, rescue staffs, and refugees, due to the thousands of rocket-propelled grenades and unexploded ordnance left in residential communities and Gaza-based UN-run facilities.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The United Nations put the number of displaced Gazans&#8217; number 425,000 before the ceasefire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Source:<\/span> <strong><em>World Bulletin<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thousands of Palestinians have been forcibly displaced from their own and only homes due to the ongoing Israeli military offensive that has been rocking besieged Gaza for over a month, a UN report revealed on Saturday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3759","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
