{"id":3616,"date":"2014-05-10T07:09:58","date_gmt":"2014-05-10T07:09:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp3\/?p=3616"},"modified":"2014-05-10T07:09:58","modified_gmt":"2014-05-10T07:09:58","slug":"saudi-grand-mufti-condemns-boko-haram-over-girl-kidnapping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/2014\/05\/10\/3616\/","title":{"rendered":"Saudi Grand Mufti condemns Boko Haram over girl kidnapping"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/stories\/news3\/mufti-abdulaziz.jpg\" border=\"0\" style=\"float: right; margin: 5px;\" \/>Saudi Arabia\u2019s grand mufti, the top religious authority in the birthplace of Islam, has condemned Nigeria&#8217;s Boko Haram as a group \u201cset up to smear the image of Islam\u201d and condemned its kidnapping of over 200 schoolgirls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sheikh Abdulaziz al-Sheikh said the radical movement, which says it wants to establish a \u201cpure\u201d Islamic state in Nigeria, was \u201cmisguided\u201d and should be \u201cshown their wrong path and be made to reject it.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">His remarks came as religious leaders in the Muslim world, who often do not comment on militant violence, joined in denouncing Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau for saying Allah had told him to sell off the kidnapped girls as forced brides.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThis is a group that has been set up to smear the image of Islam and must be offered advice, shown their wrong path and be made to reject it,\u201d he told the Arabic-language newspaper al-Hayat in an interview published on Friday.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThese groups are not on the right path because Islam is against kidnapping, killing and aggression,\u201d he said. \u201cMarrying kidnapped girls is not permitted.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Boko Haram militants kidnapped some 250 girls on April 14 from a secondary school in Chibok village, near the Cameroon border, while they took exams. Fifty have since escaped.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shekau\u2019s video was released on Monday, sparking a wave of revulsion in Nigeria and abroad and prompting offers of help from countries such as the United States, Britain and France to search for them.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Boko Haram has led a five-year-old insurgency with the stated aim of reviving a medieval Islamic caliphate in modern <\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Nigeria, whose 170 million people are split roughly evenly between Christians and Muslims.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Its violent attacks have become by far the biggest security threat to Africa&#8217;s top oil producer and it has spread out to menace the neighboring countries of Cameroon, Niger and Chad.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On Thursday, Islamic scholars and human rights officials of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the world&#8217;s largest Muslim body representing 57 countries, denounced the kidnapping as \u201ca gross misinterpretation of Islam.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This week, al-Azhar, the prestigious Cairo-based seat of Sunni learning, also said that the kidnapping \u201chas nothing to do with the tolerant and noble teachings of Islam.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Source:<em><strong> Alarabiya<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saudi Arabia\u2019s grand mufti, the top religious authority in the birthplace of Islam, has condemned Nigeria&#8217;s Boko Haram as a group \u201cset up to smear the image of Islam\u201d and condemned its kidnapping of over 200 schoolgirls.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[32],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3616","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-c59-islamic-world"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
