{"id":3449,"date":"2014-03-04T08:07:22","date_gmt":"2014-03-04T08:07:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp3\/?p=3449"},"modified":"2014-03-04T08:07:22","modified_gmt":"2014-03-04T08:07:22","slug":"eleven-including-two-judges-killed-in-gun-suicide-attacks-on-islamabad-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/2014\/03\/04\/3449\/","title":{"rendered":"Eleven including two judges killed in gun, suicide attacks on Islamabad court"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/stories\/news3\/islamabad_court4.jpg\" border=\"0\" style=\"float: right; margin: 5px;\" \/>At least 11 people, including two additional sessions judges were killed on Monday when unidentified assailants opened fire and then blew themselves in a court in the capital city\u2019s F-8 area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cThere was firing by two to three people followed by two suicide blasts which killed 11 people and wounded 25 others,\u201d Islamabad police chief Sikandar Hayat told reporters.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cAll the attackers fled though one sustained injuries in the leg and back.\u201d<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Twenty-five people were reportedly injured in the attack.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Moreover, lawyers fled from their chambers seeking shelter from bullets as fear and panic gripped the premises.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">According to police, two blasts took place inside the court\u2019s premises, one near the chambers of a judge and the other outside another office.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Officers at the scene told AFP the incident began when a defendant was brought before the court and his associates tried to break him free.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Another senior-ranking police official said the incident could be a terror attack but nothing could be said with certainty as yet.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The hearings of cases scheduled for the day were postponed.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Subsequently, police and special forces were deployed in the court and emergency was declared in hospitals.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Policemen collect evidence from the site of a bomb attack at the district court.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The death toll was confirmed by other police officials and the spokeswoman for the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Ayesha Isani.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Roads around the court, located in a well-heeled residential sector of the city popular with foreign residents, were sealed off as police and paramilitary forces carried out a search operation.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The dead include Session court judge Rafaqat Awan and a female lawyer Fiza.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>TTP DENIES INVOLVEMENT:<\/strong><\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Shahidullah Shahid denied the outlawed group\u2019s involvement in the attack.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Shahidullah Shahid said TTP condemned the attack on the court in Islamabad, adding that recent terror attacks should not be linked with the organisation.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The spokesman further said the TTP would not violate the ceasefire it had announced on Saturday.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pakistan has been in the grip of a bloody homegrown Taliban insurgency since 2007 but attacks within the capital have been very rare in recent years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Source:<\/span> <em><strong>PakistanToday<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At least 11 people, including two additional sessions judges were killed on Monday when unidentified assailants opened fire and then blew themselves in a court in the capital city\u2019s F-8 area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3449","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
