\"\"1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is the day on which the religion was perfected and Allaah\u2019s Favour was completed.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In Al-Saheehayn it was reported from \u2018Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with him) that a Jewish man said to him, \u201cO Ameer al-Mu\u2019mineen, there is an aayah in your Book which you recite; if it had come to us Jews, we would have taken that day as an \u2018Eid (festival).\u201d \u2018Umar said, \u201cWhich aayah?\u201d He said: \u201cThis day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.\u201d [al-Maa\u2019idah 5:3 \u2013 interpretation of the meaning]. \u2018Umar said, \u201cWe know on which day and in which place that was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). It was when he was standing in \u2018Arafaah on a Friday.\u201d <\/span>
2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is a day of Eid for the people who are in that place. <\/span>
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: \u201cYawm \u2018Arafaah (the day of \u2018Arafaah), Yawm al-Nahr (the Day of Sacrifice) andAyyaam al-Tashreeq (the 3 days following Yawm al-Nahr) are Eid (festival) for us, the people of Islam. These are days of eating and drinking.\u201d This was narrated by the authors of al-Sunan. It was reported that \u2018Umar ibn al-Khattaab said: \u201cIt \u2013 i.e., the aayah \u2018This day I have perfected\u2026\u2019 was revealed on a Friday, the Day of \u2018Arafaah, both of which \u2013 praise be to Allaah \u2013 are Eids for us.\u201d <\/span>
3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is a day by which Allaah swore an oath. <\/span>
The Almighty cannot swear by anything except that which is mighty. Yawm \u2018Arafaah is the \u201cwitnessed day\u201d mentioned in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):<\/span>
\u201cBy the witnessing day [Friday] and by the witnessed day [the Day of \u2018Arafaah].\u201d [al-Burooj 85:3].<\/span>
It was reported from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: \u201cThe promised day is the Day of Resurrection, the witnessed day is the Day of \u2018Arafaah, and the witnessing day is Friday.\u201d Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani. <\/span>
It is the \u201codd\u201d [i.e., odd-numbered, Witr] by which Allaah swore in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):<\/span>
\u201cAnd by the even and the odd<\/em>\u201d [al-Fajr 89:3]. Ibn \u2018Abbaas said: \u201cThe even is the Day of al-Adhaa [i.e., 10th Dhoo\u2019l-Hijjah] and the odd is the Day of \u2018Arafaah [i.e., 9th Dhoo\u2019l-Hijjah] This is also the view of \u2018Ikrimah and al-Dahhaak. <\/span>
4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fasting on this day is an expiation for two years. <\/span>
It was reported from Abu Qutaadah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was asked about fasting on the Day of \u2018Arafaah. He said, \u201cIt expiates for the sins of the previous year and of the coming year.\u201d Narrated by Muslim. <\/span>
This (fasting) is mustahabb for those who are not on Hajj. In the case of the one who is on Hajj, it is not Sunnah for him to fast on the Day of \u2018Arafaah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not fast on this day in \u2018Arafaah. It was narrated that he forbade fasting on the Day of \u2018Arafaah in \u2018Arafaah. <\/span>
5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is the day on which Allaah took the covenant from the progeny of Adam. <\/span>
It was reported that Ibn \u2018Abbaas (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: \u201cAllaah took the covenant from the loins of Adam in Na\u2019maan, i.e., \u2018Arafaah. He brought forth from his loins all his offspring and spread them before Him, then He addressed them, and said: \u2018Am I not your Lord? They said, \u2018Yes, we testify,\u2019 let you should say on the Day of Resurrection: \u2018Verily, we have been unaware of this.\u2019 Or lest you should say: \u2018It was only our fathers aforetime who took others as partners in worship along with Allaah, and we were (merely their) descendents after them; will You then destroy us because of the deeds of men who practised Al-Baatil (i.e., ploytheism and committing crimes and sins, invoking and worshipping others besides Allaah<\/em>)?\u2019 [al-A\u2019raaf 7:172-173 \u2013 interpretation of the meaning].\u201d Narrated by Ahmad and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani. And there is no greater day than this and no greater covenant than this. \u00a0<\/span>
6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is the day of forgiveness of sins, freedom from the Fire and pride in the people who are there: <\/span>
In Saheeh Muslim it was narrated from \u2018Aa\u2019ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: \u201cThere is no day on which Allaah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of \u2018Arafaah. He comes close and expresses His pride to the angels, saying, \u2018What do these people want?\u2019\u201d<\/span>
\u00a0It was reported from Ibn \u2018Umar that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: \u201cAllaah expresses His pride to His angels at the time of \u2018Ishaa\u2019 on the Day of \u2018Arafaah, about the people of \u2018Arafaah. He says, \u2018Look at My slaves who have come unkempt and dusty.\u2019\u201d Narrated by Ahmad and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani.<\/span>
