{"id":2730,"date":"2013-02-12T08:06:39","date_gmt":"2013-02-12T08:06:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp3\/?p=2730"},"modified":"2013-02-12T08:06:39","modified_gmt":"2013-02-12T08:06:39","slug":"hamas-launches-own-official-news-agency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/2013\/02\/12\/2730\/","title":{"rendered":"Hamas launches own official news agency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/stories\/news2\/hamas-news-agency.jpg\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\" \/>The Islamist movement Hamas which rules Gaza has set up its own news agency, called Al Rai (Opinion), the Palestinian territory\u2019s Hamas government announced on Monday.  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first official news agency of the (Hamas) government has been established under the name of Al-Rai agency&#8230;under the supervision of the government information office,\u201d the office\u2019s director Salameh Maaruf told AFP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be an important source of information on government activities, news releases and letters from the (Gaza) prime minister,\u201d Ismail Haniya, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agency is independent in terms of personnel and administration, but the government information office will be responsible for supervising it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Rai was launched with an initial 15 journalists to \u201cfocus on the Palestinian issue, and Arab and international news relating to this issue,\u201dhe said.<\/p>\n<p>It will also give the public a chance to submit \u201csuggestions and complaints\u201d to be forwarded to the relevant government departments.<\/p>\n<p>Maaruf said that although the new agency will express \u201cthe official government line,\u201d it will carry other points of view, including that of Hamas\u2019s rival Fatah, which is headed by Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas.<\/p>\n<p>Several news agencies already operate in the Gaza Strip, among them SAFA launched in 2007 and close to Hamas.
