\u201cThe movie that was produced by a convicted felon \u2013 is not just an insult to Muslims but to Americans as well,\u201d Dr Sayeed ur Rahman Chowdhury, the national president of Muslim Ummah of North America (MUNA), told Dawn.com on Friday, October 5.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo demean and spread hate is not freedom of speech \u2013 that is something else.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chowdhury was speaking during an event hosted by MUNA amid Muslim fury over an American-made film insulting Prophet Muhammad.<\/p>\n
Titled \u2018innocence of Muslims\u2019, the film portrays the Prophet as a fool, philanderer and a religious fake.<\/p>\n
The film triggered protests in several countries around the world, which left scores of people dead, including the US ambassador in Libya.<\/p>\n
Adding insult into injury, a French magazine published cartoons mocking the prophet, further angering Muslims.<\/p>\n
The anti-prophet insults have triggered calls for a UN resolution criminalizing blasphemy.<\/p>\n
\u201cExtremism and terrorism cannot be in Islam. Extremists and terrorists have their own religion \u2013 it is not Islam, Judaism, or Christianity,\u201d said Chowdhury.<\/p>\n
Rejecting the defamatory film, Chowdhury urged American Muslims to find better ways to respond to these extremist ideas targeting Islam.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to find a better way to respond. My point here is to find a better way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must be visionary not just reactionary.\u201d<\/p>\n
As MUNA officials were busy finding the answer, Muhammad Ibrahim, the founder of Muhammadi media company, was spreading his video \u201cMercy in 5\u201d on Facebook.<\/p>\n
The reaction video is about five minutes long about Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and the deeper meaning of his actions.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy video \u201cMercy in 5\u201d was in direct response to the insulting film \u201cInnocence of Muslims\u201d,\u201d Ibrahim, a Karachi 44-year-old who resides in Islamabad, said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI partially saw the trailer of that movie before Youtube was banned in Pakistan and found it to be utterly repulsive.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the same time I realized that the film was so badly made that it would have no credibility in the eyes of neutral audiences. And it is these neutral audiences who would now be seeking to know the real Prophet Muhammad (pbuh),\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
Egyptians Too<\/strong><\/p>\n Another Egyptian campaign to defend Prophet Muhammad was launched on Friday under the title \u201cKnock on Doors\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cMany young people from both liberal and Islamic parties joined the movement\u201d to defend the Prophet Muhammad, said Mohammed Assem Abdul Maged, a leader in the Islamist groups al-Jamaa al-Islamiya and al-Ansar movement, Al Arabiya reported.<\/p>\n The campaign aims mainly to collect one billion Egyptian pounds ($165 million) that would be used in media projects to spread the true image of Prphet Muhammad and his teachings.<\/p>\n These projects include setting up a TV satellite channel and a publishing house to publicize true information about the Prophet Muhammad and to defend him against insults.<\/p>\n Abdul Maged told Egypt\u2019s daily al-Masry al-Youm that he was also considering establishing a film production company abroad as part of the campaign.<\/p>\n Moreover, a sum of the collected money would be used to support the Syrian people, either in Syria or in Egypt.
