{"id":20,"date":"2010-01-24T05:10:43","date_gmt":"2010-01-24T05:10:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp3\/?p=20"},"modified":"2010-01-24T05:10:43","modified_gmt":"2010-01-24T05:10:43","slug":"security-alert-at-indian-airports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/2010\/01\/24\/20\/","title":{"rendered":"Security alert at Indian airports"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right;\" alt=\"india-air\" src=\"images\/stories\/news\/india-air.jpg\" height=\"240\" width=\"283\" \/>A security alert has been issued at India&#8217;s airports after intelligence services received information about a plot to hijack a plane.<br \/>The alleged plot involved an Air India or Indian Airlines flight bound for a neighbouring country, officials said on Friday.<\/div>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">U K Bansal, an interior ministry official, said: &#8220;We have alerted our civil aviation security people against a possible attempt to hijack an Indian airlines flight.&#8221;<br \/>&#8220;This would obviously be from terrorist groups who are arraigned against Indian interests.&#8221; <br \/>An aviation spokesperson confirmed a report in The Indian Express newspaper which said intelligence officials had uncovered a plot by individuals linked to al-Qaeda and the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba group to hijack an Air India or Indian Airlines flight.<\/p>\n<p>Air marshals<br \/>Al Jazeera&#8217;s Prerna Suri, reporting from the capital, New Delhi, said air marshals had been deployed at certain flights in the South Asia region and a number of other security measures had been taken.<br \/>&#8220;Air security has been heightened across the country and passengers are being subjected to extra security checks until the end of the month.<br \/>&#8220;The authorities are looking into this intelligence alert very seriously indeed.&#8221;<br \/>Indian media said the hijack threat was uncovered during the interrogation of Amjad Khwaja, belonging to Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami, a group involved in numerous attacks in India.<br \/>Khwaja was arrested in the southern Indian city of Chennai last week and was being questioned by Indian police.<br \/>Source: Al Jazeera and agencies<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A security alert has been issued at India&#8217;s airports after intelligence services received information about a plot to hijack a plane.The alleged plot involved an Air India or Indian Airlines flight bound for a neighbouring country, officials said on Friday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-20","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
