{"id":153,"date":"2010-04-05T16:58:21","date_gmt":"2010-04-05T16:58:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp3\/?p=153"},"modified":"2010-04-05T16:58:21","modified_gmt":"2010-04-05T16:58:21","slug":"police-targeted-in-ingushetia-blast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/2010\/04\/05\/153\/","title":{"rendered":"Police targeted in Ingushetia blast"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-left: 5px; float: right;\" alt=\"ingushetia\" src=\"images\/stories\/news\/ingushetia.jpg\" width=\"283\" height=\"240\" \/>At least two police officers have been killed in the Russian republic of Ingushetia after a suicide bomb went off near a police headquarters, officials have said.<\/div>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The attacker is believed to have detonated a set of explosives after trying to enter the building in the town of Karabulak, which lies 20km from the capital, on Monday. <br \/>&#8220;A suicide bomber tried to get into the police headquarters during roll call, but after being stopped the bomber detonated the explosives,&#8221; Oleg Yelnikov, an interior ministry spokesman, told the Reuters news agency.<br \/>Another spokesman told the RIA Novosti agency that the explosion would have &#8220;led to many deaths&#8221; had the attacker gained access to the morning gathering.<br \/>Less than an hour after the attack, a second bomb in a car opposite the police station was detonated, wounding an investigator of the local prosecutor&#8217;s office.<br \/>The two blasts damaged the police headquarters and nearby houses, and destroyed several cars. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Russia &#8216;very tense&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The attack came as Russian authorities continued their hunt for those responsible for twin suicide attacks on the Moscow metro last week that killed 40 people.<br \/>The so-called Caucasus Emirate, an Islamist group led by Doku Umarov, a Chechen anti-government commander, has claimed responsibility for the metro attacks.<br \/>Those attacks were followed by suicide bombings in the Dagestan region of the North Caucasus that killed 12 people, including a local police chief, and a blast that derailed a cargo train.<br \/>Neave Barker, Al Jazeera&#8217;s correspondent in Moscow, said the attack came at a time when Russia is &#8220;very tense indeed&#8221;.<br \/>&#8220;Parallels have already been drawn between this latest attack &#8230; and the attack that took place in Dagestan on Wednesday &#8230; Clearly the response of this is one of deep concern,&#8221; he said.<br \/>&#8220;There have been a number of attacks in recent months particularly in Ingushetia close to police stations and army barracks.<br \/>&#8220;The fear is that following last week&#8217;s [attacks] that led to the deaths of at least 50 people, this spells an escalation of violence as a whole.&#8221;<br \/>One of the two suicide bombers on the Moscow subway has been identified as the 17-year-old widow of a slain Islamic fighter from Dagestan.<br \/>Novaya Gazeta, a Russian newspaper, reported on Monday that the second Moscow suicide bomber may have been a 28-year-old schoolteacher from Dagestan. <br \/>The North Caucasus has been the site of two wars in Chechnya and hundreds of violent attacks since the 1991 collapse of the Soviet Union.<br \/>Violence has spread from Chechnya to the neighbouring regions of Dagestan and Ingushetia.<\/p>\n<p> Source: Al Jazeera and Agencies<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At least two police officers have been killed in the Russian republic of Ingushetia after a suicide bomb went off near a police headquarters, officials have said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-153","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
