{"id":1351,"date":"2011-03-05T10:51:08","date_gmt":"2011-03-05T10:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/wp3\/?p=1351"},"modified":"2011-03-05T10:51:08","modified_gmt":"2011-03-05T10:51:08","slug":"indonesia-restricts-ahmadiyah","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sunnionline.us\/english\/2011\/03\/05\/1351\/","title":{"rendered":"Indonesia Restricts Ahmadiyah"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-left: 5px; float: right;\" alt=\"ahmadiyah-preachers\" src=\"images\/stories\/akhbar\/ahmadiyah-preachers.jpg\" width=\"262\" height=\"187\" \/>CAIRO \u2013 Several Indonesian provinces have prohibited the activities of Al-Ahmadiya minority group in an effort to prevent the eruption of social conflicts in the world\u2019s most populous Muslim country.<\/div>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cFollowers, members and Ahmadiyah sect board members are prohibited from conducting activities in any form, especially those deemed to deviate from Islamic teachings,\u201d West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan told the Jakarta Post on Friday, March 4.<br \/>Under the new order, Ahmadiyah members are ordered to take down signs identifying their mosques and schools.<br \/>Their signboards containing the name of the organization must also be taken down from public places, including mosques and schools.<br \/>The order also bans Ahmadiyah members from spreading their teachings orally, in writing or through electronic media.<br \/>They are also ordered to re-educate and re-integrate themselves within mainstream Islam.<br \/> \u201cThe mosques, currently known to be owned by Ahmadiyah, become public property that all Muslims can enter,\u201d Heryawan said.<br \/>The ban follows a similar one by South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo, who banned Ahmadiyah activities in public.<br \/>Syahrul said the Ahmadiyah sect was neither registered with the administration as a mass organization nor a religious organization.<br \/> \u201cFor that reason, I don\u2019t think it should be a problem should the administration prohibit its activities here. We also won\u2019t give them a permit [to practice their religion publicly],\u201d said Syahrul.<br \/>A similar ban was also being considered by Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo.<br \/> \u201cIf necessary, we can even go further to not only issue a gubernatorial decree,\u201d he said, according to the Jakarta Post.<br \/> \u201cBut instead issue a bylaw on this. The administration will have a discussion with the City Council.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Violence<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stopping short of banning the sect altogether, human rights activists criticized the ban, arguing that it would justify violence against Ahmadis.<br \/>But Indonesian officials argue that the new regulation aim at preventing any social conflicts from breaking out.<br \/> \u201cWe want to protect the Ahmadiyah community from anarchic actions. If there are violations of the 12-point agreement, let the authorities deal with it,\u201d Sugiyanto, head of the West Java High Prosecutor\u2019s Office, said.<br \/> \u201cThis is no longer a mere call but has been laid down into written regulations.
