Zahedan – Sunni Online: Qari Abdur Rahman, the country’s renowned and senior reciter, passed away on Wednesday evening (November 26) after a brief illness. He was 93.
According to the SunniOnline report, Qari Abdur Rahman, may Allah have mercy on him, dedicated over half a century of his life to the professional teaching of Qira’at and Tajweed in the religious schools of Balochistan. Consequently, many reciters and Qur’anic activists in Sistan and Baluchestan, other provinces of the country, and neighboring countries are counted among his students.
Qari Abdur Rahman was born in 1932 in a village called “Nusratabad,” located in the suburbs of Zahedan. He was deprived of his mother’s loving care in childhood and lost his father during his youth, before beginning his formal religious education.
He received his primary religious education in the traditional manner (study circles) in Zahedan. He then traveled to Quetta, Pakistan, for further studies and gained knowledge from great scholars like Qari Noor Muhammad, Qari Ghulam Nabi, Qari Sayyid Abdul Sattar Shah, and Qari Ismail Panjabi at Madrasah “Tajweed-ul-Qur’an.” He studied the science of Qira’at under Qari Noor Muhammad for one year, followed by the narration of Hafs and then the Ten Qira’at (Qira’at-e-Ashara) under Qari Ghulam Nabi, may Allah have mercy on him. He began serving as a teacher in the same seminary while simultaneously leading congregational prayers.
After returning to Iran, the late Qari Abdur Rahman served for several years at the “Farooqia” Religious School in Zahedan and, in recent years, taught as a senior Qira’at and Tajweed teacher at Darululoom Zahedan.

“Qari Abdur Rahman Was a ‘Legacy of the Pious Predecessors’; His Passing is a ‘Great Tragedy’”
Speaking at the funeral, Shaikh-ul-Islam Mawlana Abdolhamid stated that Qari Abdur Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) was one of the eminent and elderly teachers of the region. He added that Qari Abdur Rahman and Qari Ghulam Nabi (may Allah have mercy on them both), who were both students of Qari Abdul Malik (may Allah have mercy on him), were great international Qaris who rendered immense services to the Holy Qur’an. They trained many students in Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, contributing significantly to the propagation of the chain of Qira’at and Tajweed in these countries—a most blessed chain.
He further noted that many scholars and reciters active in the field of Qira’at and Tajweed in the province and the country are students of Qari Abdur Rahman.
The Friday Imam of Zahedan remarked: Qari Abdur Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) was a legacy of the pious predecessors and elders. He lived for over 90 years and spent his entire life teaching the Holy Qur’an. It is a blessing of serving the Qur’an that Qari Abdur Rahman, despite his old age, remained engaged in daily Qur’anic instruction until the end of his life.
Concluding his address, Mawlana Abdolhamid described the death of Qari Abdur Rahman (may Allah have mercy on him) as a “great tragedy” and said: The passing of Qari Abdur Rahman is a big loss. May Allah compensate our community for this loss.
