Iranian Cleric Calls for World’s Cooperation With Islamic Emirate

Speaking during the Friday prayer, this religious scholar emphasized the importance of the right to work and education for women and girls.
Mawlawi Abdul Hamid, a religious scholar from Iran, asked the international community to establish diplomatic relations with the current Afghan government in order to improve the lives of the people of Afghanistan.
Speaking during the Friday prayer, this religious scholar emphasized the importance of the right to work and education for women and girls.
“If these diplomatic ties are established, it will be better for negotiations. The Islamic scholars may have influence in Afghanistan,” Abdul Hamid said.
Mawlawi Abdul Hamid asked the Islamic Emirate to address the problem of human rights, particularly the right of women to employment and education.
“We hope that the issues of human rights and the issue of women’s rights, women’s and girls’ education, and the employment of women, can be solved,” he added.
The Islamic Emirate also welcomed Mawlawi Abdul Hamid’s request to establish diplomatic relations with the Islamic Emirate and said that efforts are underway to resolve the problems that have arisen.
“We are attempting to solve the complaints and worries that exist in this direction as much as possible,” said Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesman of the Islamic Emirate.
The former US special envoy for Afghanistan’s reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, US special envoy for women, girls and human rights in Afghanistan, Rina Amiri, have called for the provision of women’s and girls’ rights.
Khalilzad asked the Islamic Emirate’s leadership to take heed to Mawlawi Abdul Hamid’s remarks about the rights of women and girls.
“I appreciate Mavlavi Abdul Hamid’s Friday sermon today where he advocated for the reinstatement of women and girls in education and for humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan b/c of the extreme cold weather. Talib leaders should heed his message,” Khalilzad tweeted.
According to a number of analysts, it would be beneficial for both sides if the current Afghan government and the international community established diplomatic relations.
“The government of the Islamic Emirate should reopen universities and schools as soon as possible in order to avoid confronting the people of Afghanistan, preventing harm to the Afghan people, and also avoiding confronting the international community,” said Fazal Hadi Wazeen, a member of the International Islamic Scholars Union.
“We thought the school closings would be resolved in weeks or a few months, but it’s been more than a year and a half and the regulations have been rising day by day,” said Sudaba Nazhand, a women’s rights activist.
The Islamic Emirate’s recent decrees regarding the suspension of women’s work and education have sparked worldwide reactions. Most recently, the UN Security Council held a meeting behind closed doors to discuss the state of women and girls in Afghanistan.
