The last remaining of Iranian Baloch fishermen who had been abducted by Somalian parties in 20015, have been released.
They arrived at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Airport on Friday August 21, 2020. Today, August 22, they reached home in Chabahar where dozens of their fellows and relatives welcomed them.
Jamaluddin Dehwari, Ibrahim Balochnia and Abdullah Nuhani, along with 21 other sailors, were captured by Somalian pirates in March 2015.
The three Baloch fishermen have been released in cooperation of the Foreign Ministry of Iran and by interceding of Baloch and Somalian trustees, and the country’s security services.
In 2016, the pirates released a video of the abducted fishermen. In that video, the hostages asked the Iranian authorities and the world for help. The pirates demanded thousands of dollars which the families could not afford.
Over these years, Baloch elders and some other organizations made efforts to free Baloch fishermen. During this time, eight fishermen died of starvation, thirst, and torture.
Mohammad Panahandeh was a member of the same group, released last year through the UN interceding.
