The most influential Islamic scholar of the Iranian Sunni community has asked supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to stop the hanging process of the Sunni prisoners.
The official web portal of Shaikh-ul-Islam Mawlana Abdol-Hamid has quoted some parts of his letter to the Iranian supreme leader.
He alluded to some reports about the secret order of the chief justice/head of the Judicial System that suggests hanging of the Sunni prisoners who have been sentenced to death in courts on narcotics charges should be ‘accelerated’.
The members of the Majlis/parliament have been discussing a bill that restricts the law of capital punishment for traders and holders of narcotics. There are about five thousands prisoners who may get rid of hanging by the approval of new reformations in the Act of Anti-Narcotics.
There are rumors in the media that the head of the judiciary wants to implement the capital punishment of the Sunni smugglers and convicts.
Showing his ‘deep concern’ on the reports, the eminent Iranian scholar wrote the supreme leader: “There are fears among the Sunni masses on the secret orders to hang some prisoners. This issue demands your quick and wise steps –being the supreme leader and spiritual father for all Iranians- to rebuff the fears in this regard.”
The letter adds that recent executions of some convicts prove the rumors are not false fully.
