Only 30 doctors left in 250 thousand people of Aleppo

Food has run out in eastern Aleppo and the medical sector is “kneeling under the burden of so many wounded civilians”, a senior UN humanitarian official has told The World.
“It’s a dramatic situation in Aleppo, both west, which is Government-controlled, and in particular the [rebel-held] east which is totally besieged,” Mr Egeland said.
“Food has run out and the medical sector is kneeling under the burden of so many wounded civilians.
Opposition and monitoring groups said dozens of people had been killed this week as airstrikes and shelling, including on hospitals, resumed after a four-week pause.
Mr Egeland said the UN had a four-point plan for Aleppo, which involved delivering relief and supplies to hospitals and civilians, evacuating the injured and getting medical personnel into the east.
But he warned time was running out with Syria facing a “killer winter” and said the UN was still waiting on responses to its plan from both Damascus and Moscow.
“We have had infinite problems in providing relief to the civilian population,” he said.
“Men with guns and with political and other power are preventing us as humanitarians from giving relief to women, children, wounded, people who are extremely vulnerable in this ruthless war.”
