Muslim Family Attacked In Manchester Tram

A Muslim couple were verbally abused by a group of teenage girls in a Greater Manchester tram, in an attack that sparked angry comments from social media users.
“Aren’t you feeling hot in that?” one of the girls asked the Muslim woman, her husband posted on Facebook.
“That shouldn’t concern you,” the Muslim mother replied.
The Muslim man, Aminur Rahman, was recounting how his family was racially attacked on the Rochdale to East Didsbury line over the past weekend.
According to Rahman, the six girls used condescending swear words and abusive language while mocking his wife’s niqab, an Islamic face veil, Manchester Evening News reported.
“I informed them that my wife’s mother had just passed away, to which they showed no remorse or empathy and carried on swearing and using abusive language,” Rahman said.
“I then got up and told them to stop and again informed them politely that my wife’s mother has just passed away. They carried on with the abusive language.”
Moreover, the girls threatened to punch the Muslim wife on her face.
Despite girls’ threats, none of the other commuters interfered to defend the Muslim couple whose 9-month-old baby screamed in fear.
A similar attack happened earlier this month when a veiled British Muslim mother was attacked and her hijab ripper off by a group of women in South London.
The mother was in her way to collect children from a London primary school when the attack occurred.

Condemned
The Islamophobic attack has drawn the ire of British Facebook users who rushed to condemn the incident.
A Facebook video that shows the attack has been viewed 1,143,727 times, with more than 21,660 shares.
“This is absolutely disgusting. Nobody should be made to feel threatened on public transport,” a Faccebook user commented on the video of the attack.
“These girls are very ignorant and small minded. I’m sure their parents would be disgusted! I hope you and your family are okay. Please report this to the police so these girls can be found and receive their comeuppance.”
Others praised the Muslim father for keeping calm while protecting his family.
“Praise must be giving to the husband for keeping so calm as personally I’m not sure I could have, disgusting behavior,” another Facebook user posted.
“I’m sure their parents are very proud of what utter disgusting human beings their children have been brought up to be.
“I hope the man in question and his wife are ok for a baby to witness this is wrong.”
Britain is home to a sizable Muslim minority of nearly 2 million.
Hundreds of anti-Muslim hate offences have been carried out across UK in 2013, with Britain’s Metropolitan police recording an increase of 49% than 2012.
