At least 15 people were killed and 35 others wounded on Wednesday in Islamabad after a bomb exploded at a bustling fruit and vegetable market, officials said.
The blast took place in the busy morning hours when dozen of people, mostly grocers, gather at the market.
“We have received 15 dead bodies and 35 injured people,” Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) spokeswoman Ayesha Isani told reporters in Islamabad.
She said the condition of two patients was very critical.
“It was a bomb blast, heard over a big radius,” local police official Tehzeeb Hussain told Agence France-Presse.
A police official quoted by the Associated Press said approximately five kilograms of explosives had been hidden in a fruit crate.
Ambulances were rushing in and out of the area, carrying wounded people and bodies.
