Taliban committee reaches Islamabad with 15-point demand list

A two-member Taliban committee, consisting of Professor Muhammad Ibrahim and committee coordinator Maulana Yousuf Shah, has reached Islamabad after holding a crucial meeting with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leadership.

According to media reports, the TTP presented their demands before Taliban negotiations committee member, who held meeting with political Shura on the second day of their visit to an undisclosed destination in North Waziristan.
The committee formed by the government are waiting for a reply from the TTP leadership.
It is also expected that a meeting would be held today between the committees of the government and the Taliban to discuss the demands presented by TTP leadership.

The demands are as follows:

•    Stop drone attacks
•    Introduce sharia law in courts
•    Introduce Islamic system of education in both public and private educational institutions
•    Free Pakistani and foreign Taliban held in jails
•    Restoration and remuneration for damage to property during drone attacks
•    Hand over control of tribal areas to local forces
•    Withdrawal of army from tribal areas and close down check posts
•    All criminal allegations against the Taliban be dropped
•    Prisoners from both sides be released
•    Equal rights for all, poor and rich
•    Families of drone attack victims be offered jobs
•    End interest-based system; stop supporting the US on the war on terror
•    Replace the democratic system of governance with the Islamic system
•    End all relations with the US.

While the TTP has hinted at continuation of peace talks with the government and expressed its willingness for a conditional ceasefire.
