Israel arrested 450 Palestinian children in 2013

Palestinian organizations Wadi Al-Hilwa and Silwan Information Centre have released the figures of Palestinians arrested in Al-Quds (Jerusalem) in the year of 2013.

According to the organizations, a total of 1,450 residents in Jerusalem were arrested by the Israeli authorities. What is alarming, however, is that 450 of those arrested were children, of which 20 were interrogated and kept in solitary confinement for up to five day.
While in detention, the reports say that they were denied access to lawyers and family members, and kept in inhumane conditions. One of the children arrested was only five years old. He was kept inside a police vehicle for an hour.
The organizations also cited that 446 residents had been displaced, 95 shops destroyed, and hundreds of warrants were issued for the demolition of Palestinian homes. Meanwhile the reports claimed that Israel made plans to build 4,500 illegal settlements on Palestinian territory.
Furthermore, the raid of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound was carried out by over 9,000 Jewish settlers, including officials, and 2,000 security personnel a number of times, forcing Friday prayers to be cancelled in Islam’s third holiest site six times.
