Attack on Baghdad Shiite stronghold kills at least 57 people

At least 57 people were killed on Saturday following a triple bombing that targeted a tent filled with mourners in Baghdad’s Shiite Muslim stronghold of Sadr City, officials said.

Police said a car bomb went off near the tent where a funeral was being held, a suicide bomber driving a car then blew himself up and a third explosion followed as emergency services gathered at the scene.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which left at least 100 people wounded, according to medics quoted by Reuters.
A Reuters reporter said distraught survivors had attacked policemen and firefighters who tried to move them away from the scene.
Violence in Iraq has reached a level not seen since 2008, killing more than 4,200 people since the beginning of the year, according to an AFP toll based on security and medical sources.
