The UK was one of the countries which made an immediate response following the deadly attack. Britain stated that they would bring up the issue to the UNSC and that the UN team had to enter the affected area immediately. Britain has warned that in the case of evidence of chemical weapons being used proved, then a “serious response” would be placed. The UK also mentioned that a military action could be still run without an UN decision if Russia and China vetoed.
The outcome of the British parliament was negative even tough the British government demanded on carrying our a military strike on Syria. The House of Commons rejected the government proposal of “a strong humanitarian response” by a 285 to 272 margin, which disappointed the Prime Minister David Cameron. The reflections of the outcome from the Parliament in the press were covered as “closest ally US is left alone” yet the Premier Cameron underscored he was respecting the decision of the Parliament and highlighted that the cooperation in the field of intelligence service with the US would continue.
British government approached positively over the plans of putting Syrian chemical weapons under international control. British Prime Minister Cameron stated that Syria should be encouraged to place its chemical weapons arsenal under international supervision, but said the world needed to ensure that discussion of such an idea did not become a distraction.
France that was interested in military intervention in Syria proposed that the responsible ones for using chemical weapons had to be put forward and stand trial by the international criminal court. Despite their support of a military strike, France noted, they find the proposal of putting Syria’s chemical weapons under international supervision would be “bring fully to light”.
Most of the EU member countries including France and Germany are expecting the UN experts to present their report on the use of chemical weapons in Syria to the UNSC. UN Team who held investigation in war-torn Syria is expected to prepare their report by the end of this week and then present to the UNSC.
